I have a Dell Precision M6500 with a Quadro FX2800M currently in it. If I were to order a different video card, such as a GTX 580M, will it work? I don't know if it works like desktops or if the motherboard is only compatible with a small list.

Normally it does not work replacing GPU in laptops but some have mini cards and I believe yours does. The problem is that the cards are not in retail and are very expensive to buy from the OEM's as a spare part. Usually it is cheaper to replace the laptop. Desktop parts do not fit.

Yes, it is a mini-card. I have found the card I was looking for on Ebay as a new item. The card is about $700, which would cost about the same in a new laptop. Just wanted some assurance before I buy a $700 card that may not work.
