Replacing Mobo without fresh windows install?!

Long story short, I have a MSI Z170A, after two attempts at getting a fully functioning one from amazon it arrived with the audio jacks not working. Being at the end of my tether after trying to trouble shoot the problem for days, I bought a USB audio adapter. This seems to be creating issues now with my friends and my recordings with Shadowplay.

I want to replace this board with an upgraded version, can I do this - potentially problem free - without a fresh install of windows or wipe?

simple answer - yes you can.
if you have windows 10, it most probably would be an easy thing.
with earlier windows versions it might require few additional steps before the move.

If as you say it's an upgraded version then suggest you load the chipset driver even if it is Win10
