Replacing R9 280X for a Nvidia GPU.

My GPU seems to be just about useless other than what every other GPU does. I want to replace it with a Nvidia GPU that cost about $200 - $250 that supports shadow play and other goodies. Also planning to replace my AMD CPU (FX-8320) for an Intel I could also use help in that area. Games i play often are 😛lanetside 2,Arma 2 (DayZ Mod included),War Thunder,Battlefield,etc.

The $250 budget is my "I suck at getting money" budget. If I can I'll try to get 780 Ti but I'm not sure I'll be able to get it. If there's $300 Nvidia GPUs that outperform my MSI R9 280X i'll take it. Most of my gaming friends have a low budget GPU that's able to get more FPS on those games (minus Battlefield). That and Nvidia has a better support for errors.

Dear,

Don't just compare the GPUs in various builds. You should take into account the following factors:

Resolution at which you are playing and your friends are playing
CPUs in these setups
Type of GPU in those builds. This was my basic question which I asked which model of GPU do you have?
Airflow in the case. This has to do with the cooling the GPU to give better performance.

780Ti would cost you $600 near around.

Don't spend your bucks just because you are comparing the GPU with other GPUs without giving due consideration to other factors.

We all play in 1080p. They all have Intel CPUs (Don't know the names). Most got Nvidia cards (But I don't know which cards they have. I know only 1 with a 780 Ti) . I got water cooling in my CPU (Corsair H100).

You can't compare 780Ti with R9 280x. Pl make comparison at parity level like R9 270x vs 760, R9 280x vs 770, R9 290 vs 780 and so on.

Again I would like to iterate not to go for $250 nvidia card or you will end up regretting this decision. This is not an upgrade but a degrade.

your next upgrade should be GTX 780+ or R9 290+

If you want to overclock then get i5 4690k along with Z97 chipset series mobo like Asus Z97-A
otherwise get i5 4690 along with H97 chipset series mobo like Asus H97 Plus.

Btw Fx 8320 is not that bad. Build your budget wisely. Don't overspend where you don't need it.

As EasyLover stated, there could be a lot of different reasons why your computer is under-performing. Before doing anything you should probably look at doing some benchmarks and comparing your results with similar systems to see if you can isolate where the problem is coming from, because your system should run reasonably well.

What motherboard do you have?

Ok thanks for the info. As for my current CPU it for some reason (Despite water Cooling) runs at more than 100 F when I'm not playing any games. Not sure if that's normal but It slows my performance and gives some lag here and there. I run 30-49 FPS on Planetside 2 (Normal), 60-110 FPS on Battlefield 4 (Ultra but with the "Net-Code" it mostly go down 50-60),110-150 FPS on War Thunder (Max - No attention required), and ARMA 2 runs at 30 FPS. not bad but I'd prefer to have Planetside 2 to run at 60 FPS no more,and to be able to record gameplay and Stream. I don't want a $200 recording device but I don't want to have to pay to record and stream. Most games I plan to play run best with Intel and Nvidia so that's why I wanted to get a new CPU and a GPU.
