[citation][nom]Pherule[/nom]4th 'generation' of what? Intel's naming scheme is stupid.Pentium line: 1st gen?First core2 line + Die-shrink: 2nd genNehalem + Die-shrink (can't think of the title): 3rd genSandy + Ivy: 4th genHaswell + Rockwell: 5th genYes, no?Also since when was Ivy Bridge '3rd gen'? Ivy was a die-shrink. It wasn't a generation increase over Sandy. If Sandy was '2nd gen' then Ivy is 2nd gen too.[/citation]
4th gen Core iX processors, and their pentium/celeron counterparts. Everyday folks aren't going to remember what Sandy Bridge or Haswell's supposed to be.

All well and good, but is this both the case in the mobile and desktop version ?? In the following article on Tweakers.net it states

Het probleem zou zich voordoen bij de eerste batch Haswell-chips voor laptops en ultrabooks. (translated ->) The problem would arise in the first batch Haswell chips for laptops and ultrabooks.

I see no mentioning that it also effects desktop chips?!?

Since Intel rules, don't worry there will be driver updates and many efforts to turn the bug into a feature. Or if it is serious they will just say tough luck and the next gen will correct that, as the asian board manufacturers say (motherboards don't get repaired they are trashed and replaced unless it is a known and easily fixable bug). But wait, isn't what they are already saying?

Yes right, Intel does not care once the sell their chips to the OEMs, The OEMs will customize the drivers, like they do with the Intel HD graphics drivers, then the OEMs will never update the drivers! If Intel can not make the OEMs keep their Modded Intel HD graphics drivers updated, do you Intel cares about anything other than $$$? Intel and its OEM partners will not fix problems unless people begin returning their products and demanding a refund!

No!

Older Core, Pentium M and Core 2 were very different tech.

Core "i" is supposedly a new generation with HT (diched after latest P4):

1.gen nehalem/westmere
2.gen Sandy bridge
(for some reason Intel decided to again make a naming confusion from now on and name ivy under new generation)
3. gen Ivy bridge
4. gen Haswell

actually haswell is different enough that Intel could begin its naming again (thanks god they did not). It's the biggest change since introduction of Core 2 cpus

So I was going to pick between Haswell or Kaveri for my next laptop/desktop.. but this makes the decision easy.. Kaveri all the way. USB3.0 issues? Ain't nobody got time for that.

[citation][nom]Yuka[/nom]Sounds like a cheap shot at killing USB3 in favor of EXPENSIVEBOLT from Intel and friends.Cheers![/citation]Expensivebolt, I love it! No Intel, don't work to improve USB... proprietary and expensive "standards", now that's the Appl- err Intel I know!

Gotta appreciate the irony in that.

Back in the USB 1.x days, Intel justified going with single-pair half-duplex data cable because Firewire's extra pair added "too much cost" but now they want to make people adopt "expensivebolt" which has active transceivers at both ends of the cable and make consumer-space cables more expensive than they have ever been.

On the plus side, we get external PCIe-x4.

Intel issues a fix.

Get all users to run Folding@Home, then they never sleep their computers and USB 3.0 never has an issue. =P

I hope they get this sorted soon because this will cause a lot of problems for consumers.

[citation][nom]IncontinentSkeptic[/nom]I can't stand all this stupid naming. Just use numbers FFS! Numbers exist for a reason! Learn it![/citation]
