this just seems like a money grab...the only thing they are offering is games......seems shady to title it as a "PSN Premium" when all it is: buy some game for $70.......lol somebody said it would make it "faster" by paying...lol
As long as they don't charge for the regular psn I'm fine. I don't use it enough, but I like being able to play street fighter online when I feel like it.
[citation][nom]idisarmu[/nom]They should sell vouchers/cards in stores just like the XBL points. $5 gets you one month, $25 gets you 6 months, and $40 gets you 12 months. That would encourage people to buy the cards in bulk.[/citation]
I had to run all over town just find a single place that had PSN cards (for buying games for my PSPgo).
Patches used to include new content, but now it's all paid DLCs. Online servers were included, but now playing online is a extra charge.
It's expensive to be a gamer. 🙁
I am normally not for the "pay to play online" model, but if instead of free games you could use it as a credit to get whatever you wanted on the psn. Like after 6 months you could get a free movie download, or a free pixeljunk game. Maybe even free dlc. That might be enough to swing me to try it, but sony has to set it up right. I can't just throw away my money in this economy.
I'd hazard a guess there'll be pretty good game choices in the first few months, then steadily declining quality with a few bright spots. Will have to wait and see, there'd better be more than a bunch of games into this.
For anybody who says the PSN is bad, and you pay for xbox live instead... The best solution for you would be to stop paying for xbox live, use the $50 a month to get a better ISP and stop being a cheap internet user, and buy PS3 and in the long run you will be happy.. bottom line is.. its ur ISP not the psn network cause there are absolutely no problems with the psn... if you dont agree with me ask kevin butler, he could convince anybody.

Wait so your telling me its the ISP's fault that the PSN died when the MW2 map pack got released? Here's me thinking it was the ropey PSN servers caving in due to the demand.
Thank god this is Toms Hardware and a majority of comments are made by sane people.
To me the main problem with PSN is that headsets are not the default, making online games decidedly less fun on the PS3. I Would like to see a bundle with headset and 12 month subscription priced competively. PSN needs a business model if Xbox Live is going to get some competition.
People who want everything to be free should watch The Onions latest video skit on the Google Phone. Somehow someone has to pay for the service, the more money the better the service. Right now PSN is free and crap, with this incentive I think Sony has a good chance of getting PSN up to Xbox Live standards in many regards and even surpass Xbox Live in some.
A lot of people including myself will find no problem paying for PSN even if all you get is a PSN Mini every month initially in the belief that the service will improve with more users. Xbox Live needs the competition, and please Sony, make a controller for a grown up man, the thing is crazy tiny.

Xbox is still .........
All I ever wanted was to play a couple rounds and frag a couple noobs. I never wanted any chat/avatar/what the hell ever...
"The source went on to say that though the premium service would offer lots of extras, it wouldn't mean fewer features for those with the regular, old free version."
And nobody cared that the above statement is logically impossible, unless extras are not features.
So far the details of the premium account are nil.
The free games don't cut it for me because many people will usually purchase 1 game and stick to it for a while. It's not like they'll offer COD MW2 or BFBC2. These are usually cheap games. There has to be some type of exclusives or something else that is worth the price.
I will not pay for a gaming subscription, no X-Box live, no PSN, no On-Live, No Porn-pass, nothing, not ever. Anything that's free on the PC should be free on the console, especially since that is apparently where all the money's at.
this is stupid. You're basically paying so Sony can 1) tell you which PSN games you have to buy every month, and 2) charge you for something you already get for free?...why not just save your money and only get the games you do want?
[citation][nom]builderbobftw[/nom]Ewwww....To me this seems like it will become what M$ did with Xbox Live "Gold" and the free "Sliver", after the PS4 launch. Basically the silver lets you shop for the gold.[/citation]
I really hope that they don't do that, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did.
Sony should consider making another tier that costs less and less features. They would keep the existing free service they have now just as is make a middle tier service that costs $30-40 that has free games every 2 or 3 months. Then drop the the price of their top tier by $10 or $20 bucks to be able to compete with Live, and be able to tout that they have free games every month because in PSN's current state it can't compete with live in terms as a service.
[citation][nom]JonathanDeane[/nom]It comes with some free games I guess so. I would wait a couple of months to see what kind of free games though. If its just Pacman or Qbert for free then I would say no.[/citation]
How is it free if it costs $70/mo. Why's this guy getting so much green LOL unless money is free now
For the people FREAKING OUT over this PSN Premium Service...
1. Sony said they would NEVER charge people to play games online. (Except MMORPGs). This remains true even now. You do not need to pay $70 a year to go online with your online-compatible video games.
2. This is just an optional service. Everything you get now with your free PSN service will remain intact. You will not lose any current services or access.
3. Xbox Live still sucks and until Microsoft gives Silver Members free online gaming access for the $59.99 + tax games they already bought, XBL will continue to suck.
4. Did I mention Xbox Live sucks? You can get most XBL features on a standalone Blu-Ray player for FREE.
I just thought.... It would be an awesome idea if paying that 70 bucks could let you back up EVERYTHING on your PS3 and download it from they're servers onto any other PS3.

[citation][nom]hollowtek[/nom]i would pay just for dedicated servers and less lag damnit.[/citation]Seems unlikely.
The source went on to say that though the premium service would offer lots of extras, it wouldn't mean fewer features for those with the regular, old free version. When asked about the possibility that cross-game voice chat was being saved as a paid feature, the source said this was absolutely not the case.
"I can tell you now, 100 percent, that that’s not the case. There’s nothing in the premium package which will gimp regular PSN users."
And then this is where you ask a follow up question like say.... So what is the deal with cross game chat?
