Hi group,

yesterday during a counterstrike-break with steamclient up (chicken
with black olives and ....) I try to relogin, steam asked me for
password and tries aprox. 2min reconnecting. Then it comes back

"could not connect to steamserver"

offering me retry, cancel and a website for troubleshooting
which leads to a deep timesink.

-deleting ClientRegistry.blob
-reinstalling steamclient
-unfirewall(first of course relearning Steamsh**.exes)
-unvirusscan
-reading up and down the virusscanner-accessfilelist
-offering old wdmaud.dll in sierra/steam
-poweroffbooting dslrouter (first of course softreboot just to tell how
time could be wasted)

but the solution was:

just wait til the admins of the steam-sh**-servers wake up and get
their things correct (prob after finish w*****' with the "W2005 _is_ a
server" fibula)

proximatly 14h later!!!

(maybe they did twice :)

but on gametiger i could monitor all servers full, so i exspect, only a
few cash-cow-accounts were blocked.
(just purchased HL2 for 50$ means 40 Euro as im german)

Good software ist designed to run in any circumstance,
good licensemanagers are designed to run in 1 circumstance,
therefor a correct license is insufficiant.

If that happens, go in off-line mode, and play against the AI players. You
can easily simulate online play by forcing the bots to be perfectly
accurrate with no reaction time.

Besides, it's very obvious when it's a network outage - trying to connect
is basically pointless. Play one of your other favourite games instead,
such as RTCW:ET.

Troubleshooters like that always assume that the servers are up. If they
are down, don't bother with them.

HL2DM doesn't appear to have bots, but there's a semi-recent announcement
CS:CZ bots are being ported to CS:S.

In fact, I probably should get HL2. Have to get at least some income
first...

dr martinez is the intelectual of the group, but he's doing a pathetic
job making up lousy lying excuses for its master valve
its a difficult time for them the steam lovers, they really can't face

"Captain, the turret fills with steam,
The feed-pipes burst below --
You can hear the hiss of the helpless ram,
You can hear the twisted runners jam."
And he answered, "Turn and go!"
