Hi, I've been getting these awful FPS drops in every game I've played so far, with those ranging from League of Legends to the new ones like Battlefield 4, War Thunder etc.

No matter what I do, even if I decrease the graphic optimization, I still get these FPS drops. Even if it ran at 60fps at high settings, or even 200 fps on low settings, I still get these lousy fps drops.

It first stated a couple of months ago with these huge fps drops, from about 100 to 20, maybe even 10. I took a quick look at my BIOS, I "overclocked" my CPU using the BIOS menu percentage option and increased it from 0% to 10% (I have a ASROCK 960GM/U3S3 FX Motherboard which is probably impossible to overclock on.)

That did solve some issues, instead of a 100 to 20 fps drop, it was 100 to 40. After a few months it started again with the same FPS drops.

Tbh, I think my CPU is bottlenecking. I have an AMD FX 6300 with a default clock at 3.5 Ghz, but I don't know what it is right now since my stupid £30 motherboard doesn't allow me to see. Pretty sure it can handle a GTX 660, even tho I'm getting a GTX 760, and I've heard lots of good stuff with that kind of pairing.

But the real question here is: How do I fix these FPS drops?

I ran a HardwareMonitor test while playing Assassin's Creed. During the game, I randomly dropped from 60fps (vsync on) to 30, and usually my CPU is at 60C*, but for some weird reason the temperature dropped to 50C*, I think I even saw 48C*. Maybe it's the fan? (On a side note I use the clock fan they gave me)

I really don't know what the problem is but I need a quick fix.
Anyone willing to help? Thanks!

Edit: My build is:
AMD FX 6300
GTX 660 WINDFORCE EDITION
8GB CORSAIR RAM
1TB HDD AND 120GB SSD
550W XFX PSU

Solution
optimize the ssd/also look for firmware updates.

windows updates/netframework updates.

reset cmos.

virus/malware scans?

remove cpu heat sink. clean up and reapply thermal paste. re-seat same........ replace stock heat sink with something better. (hyper 212 maybe?)
