Researchers with Tsinghua University, Beijing have developed what they call "sidewall" transistors, claiming the world's smallest semiconductor feature. At one graphene atom thick, the transistor's gate is a record setter for compactness, and it could prove itself a promising venue of transistor design.

Few things, first there is no such thing as graphene atoms, there are graphene molecules at best, graphene is made of Carbon atoms, and it's not the height of the graphene sheet, in 2D that would be one of the sides, as such were talking about the graphene sheet 1 atom thickness not height.

For the benefit of the article's author, atoms are the smallest particle of an ELEMENT. If it isn't on the periodic table you cannot have an atom of it. Graphene is an ALLOTROPE of carbon, like diamond or graphite are.
