Question Reset/restore windows default user shell folders

Hi there,

This is my first post on these forums because I've always managed to find some sort of answer, but this time I'm really a bit of a pickle.

So I had D: drive on my system which I used to store most of my default windows folders (downloads, desktop, documents etc), but that drive got corrupted and so now I'm left with no folders at all.

I have a backup of some of my documents, and I've already purchased a new drive to replace my old D: drive. But I don't know how to restore my default shell folders.

I've looked in the windows registry, because I know that long time ago I changed some things in there to move my shell folders to my D: drive. But its a long time ago and I don't really know what I did anymore.

I have some screenshots but the forums don't allow me to post them.

The strange thing is that my registry seems to hold some sort of backup folder, I don't know how it got there, which contains the actual paths to my default shell folders.

Long story short, I want to just reset all of this, so I can move my folders back to my new drive once I have it. But I don't know how to do it.

I also don't know if its best to do this now, or to wait untill I have my new drive so I can just put everything on there. So I really need some advice.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

If the Users folder is what you had moved to D: then you best wait for the drive that will serve as a replacement to the one that died, dop it in then manually create the folders for each item, i.e, Documents, Downloads and so on and so forth but make sure to keep the destination folder the same as before.
