"Reset This PC" and Media Creation Tool are not allowing me to reformat my Laptop.

Hi. I'm attempting to reinstall my W10 OS using the "Reset this PC" tool, but it simply isn't working. There is no prompt or anything being executed when I hit the "Get Started" button. This feature has worked smoothly in the past, but now it's refusing to work. I've also attempted to reinstall using the Media Creation Tool, but that gave me an error message towards the end. I also tried to boot into Safe Mode and run the Reset PC tool, but no luck. AND, I tried to boot into Advanced Startup mode but literally NOTHING is working. I'm pretty sure it's not an antivirus issue because I had uninstalled MalwareBytes. But beyond that, what the hell could be preventing me from executing these tools within Windows? I just want to do a quick reinstall of my OS. That's it. I don't know why nothing is being executed. I'm clicking over and over and over and the Reset tool just won't open. It always worked in the past so what's up with this?... thanks if someone knows whats wrong.

Hello. Media Creation Tool is not working properly. It seems to be running fine but towards the end it stops working and I get this error code "0x80070005 - 0xA001A". So I'm kinda * at this point because I can't reinstall the OS with either the Reset tool or the Media Creation Tool.

heres a checklist coz that error can be very generic :

have you tried disabling/deactivating your antivirus program while you are running the tool?
have you formatted your USB stick to NTFS?
is the size of your USB stick at least 8GB?
did you check you firewall settings blocking anything related to USB?

Yeah the only Antivirus I had was Malwarebytes, and I've already uninstalled it. I have a 32 GB USB Flash, and it's formatted in the NTFS format. I've used this USB in the past before with the Media Creation Tool and I've never had a problem. The firewall doesn't seem to be blocking anything USB related as far as my limited knowledge goes. I think there is something severely wrong with my Windows 10. It doesn't make sense that the Reset tool is unresponsive, and then the MCT doesn't even work either. I just made a separate Local account on my Laptop to try and see if the Reset Tool would work on there instead, but I can't even give that account Admin privileges because literally nothing is responsive for me in the "Settings" menu. When I click the Reset tool, I get no prompt, and now when I try to set Admin privileges on my new Local account, it won't let me either.. So I'm thinking there is a virus or some shit cause my Windows is beyond <<watch the f-bombs please>>

If you have another computer or labtop, just try below software:

https://www.easyuefi.com/wintousb/

You can format your hard drive on the other computer, and install windows 10 thru the WintoUSB tool. Just remember to check "boot via UEFI" box during install.

Let me know if this works for you! :)

This is during the creation of the USB?
Possibility that it just doesn't like that particular USB stick.

Hmm.. Interesting. I can try to see if there is a spare USB at home somewhere but if not I can buy a new one from Bestbuy. Do you think that could be plausible? Something being wrong with the USB itself? I even tried to extract an ISO onto this particular USB using Rufus and it gave me an extraction error. So maybe there is something wrong with it

You only need 32 GB UAB drive for the Windows 10 Installation, but of cause, the bigger the better...

You can also use externeal hard drive as well, I tested on regular HDD, SSD, external HD and UAB, all work pretty well.

For the Windows install media, you only need an 8GB USB stick.

For the drive you are installing TO, that will become the C drive? A 32GB will result in tears, in about 2 weeks.

Hi. Just an update. I bought a brand new USB, and the Media Creation Tool still fails to run. It is giving me the same error message.

Sigh. The problem is the Media Creation Tool gets to 100% and then gives me the error message I mentioned above. I also tried putting an ISO on Rufus but it said extraction error. I just want to use this stupid "Reset This PC" tool and get this process over with. Does anyone know why the <<watch the f-bombs please>> my Windows 10 is so scuffed and why I can't execute these standard Windows procedures? I shouldn't have to go out of my way to use these third party programs to get the job done. Such a headache. I never had a single problem in the past with running the Reset Tool. For some reason my OS has gone to complete shit and even arbitrary things like configuring the Time on my laptop is getting screwed up as it keeps resetting back to the old timezone despite changing it. I can't even perform a system restore. Like my OS is totally bricked at this point. This has to be the result of some kind of virus of some sort cause what else could cripple an OS like this?

Oh, you mean install the ISO onto the USB on a different computer?
