Hello, I just got a MSI RX 5700 mech from a friend, it was probably used for mining, the clock speed at max is 1350MHz and fan speed is 70% minimum, even when idle, I tried using the Radeon software to change but it doesn't make any difference, it's probably someone changed these settings in the bios or something, I tried flashing to bios found on techguru and that it said flashed successfully but no difference, perhaps there is another way to do this?

Many thanks

SOLVED: Using the amd vbflash v3.04 to flash, rather than the latest versions.

if its been modded by a unmodified bios then it will most likely be impossible to flash back. you could use msi afterburner to change the clock speeds down or up to where they should be and make your own custom fan profile

Impossible? that's not good!

I thought you could always flash to the original bios (on techpowerup for example)

I did try afterburner, some other software, Radeons' own software, it doesn't make any difference to the clock speed or fan speed, fan speed is stuck at 70% but can reach 100% if on full load

Nope bios chips are very temperamental you can easily brick the card it comes with quite a bit of risk.

Custom fan curve is a bit different from the slider

You can also do undervolting the card as well but that takes a bit of tweaking to do and not something i recomend if you dont know all the ins and outs of the card

I appreciate the help but nothing worked,

Any setting, fan curve, clock speed control, fan speed, on MSI Afterburner, Radeon software etc
nothing works, the only time any change on fan speed is implemented, that's when I increase it to 70+ then the changes are applied, but its fixed at 70 and won't go below that on idle,

I've also tried flashing like I said before, but to no avail,

I guess this means I've hit a deadend with this and there's no way to edit the parameters?

what drivers are you using if your using the rx 5700 driver and it was flashed to a say a rx 5700 xt that might be why you cant change the parameters.

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/ gpu z might be able to tell you.

if it cant then its probly a dead end

As you can see, GPU-Z is unable to read some of the parameters like GPU Clock, GPU name and stuff,

Since we're at a possible dead-end to restoring the original bios, is it possible to install a different modded bios, one with the parameters I want to set?

it depends what does the sticker say exactly on the back of the card there where 2 mechs

one was called

MECH GP OC)

then you had the regular mech

I figured it out,

Its that I was using the ATI Flash v5.x, the latest versions to flash the card, but I tried the AMD vbflash v3.04 which actually made the changes and the card is now normal, fan can be controlled now and clocks go up to 1650MHz as intended,

Thank you very much sir,

Your response meant a lot

no problem glad to help. if it was a ex mining card just keep a eye on the temps anything above 85c is a concern for gpu or cpu.

https://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/hwmonitor_1.53.exe is tool i use for keeping a eye on temps on pc.

run into any issues you can always drop a pm if you come across another issue.
