Good evening everyone!~~~

Recently a friend of mine was using my computer and he tried to unplug the display port cable from my 1080 ti, unfortunately he is not tech-savy and he told me he pulled on it as hard as he could (he didn't know there's a clip on display port cables >:/) and the clip on the graphics card side broke off, now the cable can be inserted and pulled out easily without using the button on the cable. I work at a electronics repair store and was wondering if I can buy a new display port piece and remove my broken display port so I can solder on the new one. I am very familiar with soldering hdmi ports onto ps4's and xbox's, infact I even have a customer who brought in a xbox series x for hdmi port soldering. What do you all think?

Thanks~

Re-soldering a display port it not trivial. I've done some USB, VGA and DVI ports but many HDMI and DisplayPort surface mount solder adapters are pretty fine / small. I would be tempted to call a repair shop (or card vendor - repair/refurb) and ask for a quote.

You need solder, wick, flux, a heat gun, magnification device, multimeter, fine motor skills, and a replacement Display Port. (BTW, most of the aforementioned will exceed the cost of a new GPU)

Or try to find someone who wants to buy it for bitcoin mining.

There is ONE possible / good outcome. If you can find a donor (dead) card, you can have a source of parts and practice?

Side note: You probably have two HDMI and one DisplayPort left, why not just leave the card...
