system restore is the last thing to do after you have try everything to fix it and dont work. Yes it will erase everything(programs, setting, personal files, etc). During post(bootup) there will be an option to go into restore mode by pressing a button on the keyboard. Following onscreen direction.

Hi Ross

don't post your private info, nobody will answer on it here....

Instead read your post on tomshardware.com and answers to it.

Restore to the factory settings will erase all, it will be just like new minus your data. Put them on external HDD or USB stick or CD/DVD....

But, do u have the original disc? U can boot to install disc and select option to repair, that doesn't erase any data doc's. But always do have a back up. Just in case.

First I would do is deep scan for viruses. If u restore to previously OK date and u have a virus, it infects restore points too.

And unless u like lots of spam, go to edit your post and remove your private info from th first post.
