I found I still had GRUB from an Ubuntu installation on my laptop. Going to https://askubuntu.com/questions/429...oader?newreg=60fc1cdbb7eb44d8956dcacb62478bbe and followed the steps listed. The steps that have now made me nervous are:

-Type list vol to see all partitions (volumes) on the disk (the EFI volume will be formatted in FAT, others will be NTFS)
-Select the EFI volume by typing: sel vol Y where Y is the SYSTEM volume (this is almost always the EFI partition)
-For convenience, assign a drive letter by typing: assign letter=Z: where Z is a free (unused) drive letter
-Type exit to leave disk part

How do I remove the assigned drive letter set in step 3 without losing the EFI volume?

I thought I could go to the command prompt and delete the volume. I didn't do that as I was afraid I'd lose the entire EFI partition and therefore not be able to boot my computer. Or am I worried about nothing? I didn't see an answer in the original post.

First and foremost: do you have all important data backed up at least 2 x to locations away from the laptop in question.

Plus have verified that the backups are recoverable and readable?

Open the Disk Management window.

Expand so all can be seen.
