Hi,

I have a backup I did from my laptop 60GB HD to an external 200GB HD. I
installed a new 80GB HD and new apps in my laptop.

I plugged the external 200GB HD containing the backup from my 60GB HD into
my notebook. I then proceed to restore selected data elements like my
Outlook pst files, bookmarks and mail local folders.

It appears that I did not uncheck the security settings.

Now if I try to access any of the restored items in the various folders, the
folder is locked.

It seems that maybe it picked up the user security settings from the old
60GB HD and when restoring it on my brand new 80GB HD with a new version of
Windows and new admin, it's thinks I'm not the same person so it won't let me
or the apps open the folder and data files. I think this what is going on.

Is there anyway with me as XP admin (I have SP2 installed and am using XP
Pro) that I can overide the security settings and access the files and
folders?

Also my icons in my quick launch tool bar don't show up anymore. I'm
thinking that I restored something there and it too is now locked.

Thanks

I don't know about the last item, but for the files you need to take
ownership. Either look up "take ownership" in XP's Help & Support or
read the MS KB article here:

Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP [Q308421] -
