Hello, Resurrecting Old Presario 1611

Trying to bring back to life a Presario 1611 win 95 OS Took it back to Factory Specs but can’t find the Windows Certificate of Authenticity. Was going to load XP but do not want to multi boot this laptop. Anything I can do?

From the looks of it's specs, it has an original Pentium processor at 200Mhz. It's RAM is at 32MB by default but can be maxed out to 96MB. And it contains a 2.1GB HDD. These specs are below the minimum requirements set by Microsoft for Windows XP. Even if you got Windows XP to install, it would run VERY sluggish.

There are some websites that offer a COA free of charge because Windows 95 is that outdated and old along with some for NT 4, 98 and ME. However this is your choice and some others (Like me) would prefer to use a personal copy or buy a copy online of the actual disk.

Using XP on a system this old would be more of a headache. The only thing you could do is like others had said is to find a legit copy. Or you could always try linux out. It would have to be D.S.L. or something in the like that wouldn't slow your system down.

At maxed out RAM, he could run DSL Linux or Puppy Linux. There are others distros but they are severely outdated. DSL Linux just got it's update after years of inactivity. So it's still a viable lightweight alternative.
