Retiree needs sound help

Hello,
I have a hp Pavilion with Windows Vista it has Realtek High Definition Audio, worked at my office. Retired and brought it home but did not bring office speakers, now my speakers from my old XP HP computer won't give me sound. What do I do?

Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

The office speakers may have been active - or powered by electricity - and your HP speaker might be passive - powered from the computer. Would the old office lend you the speakers (or even give them to you) so you can prove it's nothing more serious? That way, you'd know what to go out and buy.
