I have been getting into retro pc gaming more and more and to the point that I really want to play old games on original hardware. I have experience with most hardware released post 2000's but I have never built anything older. I have acquired a pentium 3 and voodoo 1 and really want to make a pc with them but I have no idea what the options are and what is good in terms of a 2D GPU for the build. Also should I use windows 95 or windows 98?

In short: what is good, cheap and find-able on ebay or letgo?

Solution
Back when I had my voodoo, the 2d card to have was the Matrox Millenium (or Millenium II, or Mystique).

Windows 98 SE would be the best choice IIRC.

Let me know how it goes, this gives me pc gaming nostalgia! :)

Thanks alot

what games do you recommend I play on it, apart from the obvious doom, quake and duke?
My favourite games are RPG's

Fallout 1 and 2
Baldurs gate
Planescape torment
Diablo 2
Deus Ex
Tie Fighter if you into Star wars
Heroes of Might and Magic (3 is best)
X-com: Ufo Defense
Crusader: No regret
Half-Life
Duke Nukem 3D
Doom
Quake 2
System Shock 2
Thief: The dark project
Theme Park
Descent: Conflict freespace
Mechwarrior 2
Star Craft
Command & Conquer
Dungeon Keeper
Warcraft 2
The 7th guest

I could go on

Great list, thanks for going to the effort, I had some of them in my head already but a voodoo would have difficulty running half life decently. But thank's a lot anyway, I have a lot of game to track down (want to expand my big box pc collection).

But weren't there a lot of games that don't have glide and opengl support?

Not back then. I think it supported early versions of Direct3D, but most 3d accelerated games supported Glide or OpenGl.
