Reusing product key

Is it possible to reuse an old install disk and product key on a new build. I have old XP cds that are no longer being used on any pc. The hard drives that the OS was installed on have been formatted and reused as storage. Can I use these cds and product keys? Or will windows validation error pop up. I would really like to use these rather than buy another OS.

is there a way determine which cds are in still in use? I have several and I dont know if it will be a problem trying to enter several different keys to find out which ones are valid

Actually, if they are OEM versions of Windows, they can only be used on the computer they were originally installed on according to the Microsoft EULA.
