i mean really!!! it's like my radeon 9700 pro is an old piece of crap, cause i hardly ever see it in the newer benchmarks.......even though it's not behind the 9800 pro by much. And it'a also hard to see where the new cards stand with some of the older cards like the geforce 4's. someone needs to do some benchmarks with more then just the lastest 2 generations. it be nice if they compared all the cards currently used, like back to the geforce 2's or something.

agreed, you dont see a lot of tests that include a wide array of chipsets.

Forget the R9700s, you know the R9800s aren't slightly better, what I want is the inclusion of things to get an overall picture. Parhelia, Xabre, MXs, GF3s , R8500, etc. Not everyone is top of the line, and I'd like to tell my friends with Integrated graphics or cheasy old cards, see, THIS is a graph of the game you wanna play and even at 8x6 you'll be gettin 7FPS. So BUY MY CARD! (so I can buy an new one)

Have you noticed that few people even include the GF4ti or even R8500 cards anymore? Sad if you ask me, sonsidering that's what most people looking at an FX5700/R9600XT are loooking to upgrade from IMO.

i completely agree, cuz that way people looking to upgrade from a 8500 or gf4, will know how much of an increase in performance to expect from an upgrade.

I think this is a good idea, didnt they do this with the motherboards once. Motherboard Tsunami. I guess that was just intel boards. Either way I would like to see how some older cards like the ATI Rage Pro compares to some of the newer ones. These older cards like the GF2 and up were all 4x cards right. So testing them on current motherboards wouldnt be much of an issue. Would be interesting to see.

But remember they DID do it before, even included a Parhelia and a Xabre (actually 2).

For the same reasons they did this the FIRST time around, the same time needs to be spent on MODERN games. I'd say that not only is the buyer's guide due for a refresh, so is that VGA chart.

I am aware of that but the thing is do the review sites really have the resources to go that deep everytime a card come out? :frown:

EDIT: and the VGA guide is so outdated it ain funny...
Edited by Ion on 11/05/03 03:29 AM.

Yeah, I know it's outdated, but if it was worth doing once (well they did it twice actually, with 2 cpus) then why not refresh it.

And I think a site like THG has more than enough resources.

If you look at the reviews from digit-life as well, you'd likely get the impression that they could do it too (but are there enough colours in a 16bit colour paletter to make all the bar graph colours for all the cards! ).

I think alot of sites COULD do it, but it wouldn't be as part of a 'THIS BRAND NEW CARD LAUNCHED TODAY' review. As they usually focus on the current competition and replacement parts. However in the lul in between launches, what the heck, what else are they doing?

Of course, that's just my opinion as a newly minted Acented POSER!

I didn't mean that i wanted them to include all the cards everytime they do a benchmark!! I was just saying it would be nice if they had a big list of all the cards in current games, and then include a few more cards in the normal benchmarks, like a gf4 and a 8500. It would just be nice to see how big of an increase they really are from the last couple generations of cards :D

Ape, we'll have to start our own review website. I'm sure that Xabre and Matrox would be more than happy to provide a card for review. I'll quickly go and buy the domain, smackyourVPU.com and recruit everyone that is cool on THGC. Hey everyone! If you're cool and you're not a retard, you can join the smackyourVPU team!

Yeah, things are lacking bigtime. Most people only want to spend 50 bucks or less on a vid card. Most people go to the net to do research of a product before they buy. If someone wanted a kick arse site...they'd start reviewing the old cards along side the new ones to give perspective...and not limit themselves to only the top two brands.
