Hi guys,

So my computer was having some problems recently. Wouldn't turn on but there was power to the usb ports. Before i figured out it was the power supply that was dead, I had tried clearing the Bios by shorting the jumper leads & removing the internal battery, but otherwise everything else was untouched.

I've just received the replacement power supply today, so I've hooked it up & everything is ok, but when booting up, it gets to the "Starting Windows" logo & then restarts. I've tried running the Startup Repair tool from the windows disk, but it doesn't work. The logs show every check was completed successfully, except:

Repair Action: System Files Integrity check & Repair
Result: Failed, error code = 0x490
It also quotes "Boot Manager Generic Failure 0xC000000F" whenever it restarts itself.

I then ran Checkdisk on the C drive, but this shows that the disk is completely fine. What could be the problem?

My pc stats are:
Intel i5 processor
ASRock H61m/U2S2 motherboard
Coodmax CD-P500W power supply

Any help appreciated.

Here's a forum that seems to have covered your specific issue:

Here's a place to download a system repair disk if you do not have one:

Also, do you have an ssd or hdd for your os? bc one person changed ahci to ide and that fixed this problem but they had a hdd and not an ssd and you DON'T want to do that if you have an ssd of course.

Solution

Your solution kinda worked, my Sata was already set to IDE mode, so I tried changing it back to AHCI, and that did the trick!

So i think basically, if you reset your Bios & you have boot problems, if you have a hdd you should just change it regardless whether it is ide or ahci.

Do you have a bootable media (DVD/USB) on hand ? If so, then try to repair install the OS or clean install the OS, startup-repair wont work, atleast I think so.

Just keep in mind whatever you do make a backup first for a precaution, and you have to redo the win updates, have to install the drivers for devices.
