Hey guys, so I'm helping a friend do a build and he's very keen on the rgb aesthetics to put it lightly. So all of the components aside from storage, wires and psu will be compatible with the Asus Aura Sync feature. Cause he doesnt want to use multiple programs to adjust the RGB effects. The current build we came up with is this:
CPU: Intel Core i7 7700k
CPU Cooler: DeepCool Captain 240 EX RGB
RAM: GSkill TridentZ RGB 2x8GB
MOBO: Asus ROG Strix Z270F Gaming
GPU: Asus ROG Strix 1080
Case: Phanteks Eclipse P400 TG Black

So I'm hoping the community can help me out with this one. Is there a RGB controller that I can plug everything into and then plug it into the rgb header on the motherboard?

Cause the last time I built using this case, I used the RGB adapter from Phanteks to connect the Eclipse P400 case to the motherboard, but could only sync the case light and led strip, excluding the power button, by plugging out the connections from the front io and plugging into the 2 ends of the y split rgb adapter. I'm not exactly sure where to plug in the adapter to have the entire case sync up. I know it's possible cause there are plenty of vids on youtube that show all the lights in sync but none show how to actually do it. ._.

But for this build, now the CPU cooler will come with another led strip and a splitter that has to connect to an rgb header on the motherboard and, correct me if I'm wrong but, doesnt the motherboard only have 1 rgb header?

Some help from people that have built an rgb system like this is much appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT: It's alright guys I've solved this one already on my own. All I needed was an RGB LED splitter and it was all good. Build looks great now.

The only thing I'm suggesting is that DONT trust ASUS AURA.

It's totally crap, it never syncs anything properly. If you have one, "ONE" unsuccessful restart, the RGB RAMs will not even be detected in ANY RGB software. And NO, No external RGB controller can possibly control the RAMs OR the motherboard LEDs, because those RAM LEDs are accessed through SMBUS and they're highly likely to get a CRC error when you have any unsuccessful shutdowns.

I had these RAMs stuck on blue when one day there was a power cut and my UPS didn't work instantly. Then I busted my head and download Thaiphoon Burner, tried and it somehow came back to working, and a restart and not working again. Now it shows a completely different HEX Memory info dump...

Now it shows a completely different HEX Memory info dump, and I have the exact same motherboard (ASUS z270F), which doesn't even allow writing to EEPROM RAM devices without a BIOS update which I don't really know if it exists.

My suggestion is, forget the dumb useless lightings, atleast for now because they're all still unfinished and having severe issues. The motherboard however, is great so far, I had no other issues with it.

I read many many reviews about Deepcool Captain 240 EX about a broken J-shaped pump pipe which spreads the sticky chemical coolant all over the system internally, so you might want to consider that.

UPDATE: My motherboard is kept on 2 blocks of wood right in front of me, so I checked, and it has 2 RGB headers, one at bottom and kinda middle-left and the other one at top right.

I also have a similar question for you, I'm about to get Deepcool Captain 240EX RGB to my Ryzen 1500x and Asus Strix B350F and perhaps I would not going to install the rgb strip, rgb splitter or even the controller that comes in the package. The question is? How do you control the rgb light on the heatsink through motherboard software without the controller installed? Thank you

I found a simple way to fix the "RAMs not detected" issue. Didn't try it on Windows 10 yet.

If you're on Windows 7,

press Start+R, devmgmt.msc and hit enter,

in "other devices" there will be PCI Memory Controller and SMBus Controller WITHOUT DRIVERS.

Uninstall them both (right click, uninstall), click on your computer name and then click on "action" and "Scan for hardware changes".

It will try search for drivers and still not find any. Then shutdown, unplug power chord from your system for atleast 5 minutes, restart.

Open ASUS AURA software (i'm using v1.04.43) and click that reset to default circle on top right of the window. Click it about 2-3 times more if it doesn't work.

This did the trick for me, because I realized, after some unsuccessful shutdowns due to power cut at my place, those two devices got disabled for some reason.

Good luck.

As for the final answer, the best shot you have at controlling most things at once is ASUS Aura. It's the only one which can control your onboard default lights, RGB RAMs and the LED Strips at the same time. (as far as I know)
