Whenever an MP4 file is played (on twitter, reddit, discord, media player, youtube livestreams but not normal videos, etc), for some reason it plays this obnoxious and random robotic beeping sound, as well as when playing games. It makes anything im watching unlistenable, and I havent been able to find any solutions. Ive tried reinstalling drivers, reinstalling windows, changing headphones and using different ports, etc and nothings helped. It could be a motherboard issue but I dont want to RMA it if its a fixable problem. I also tried installing a new codec but it didnt change anything. If anyone can help even point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it!

ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI

unplugged any extra USB drives you don't use? Dongles, chargers, etc. I seen strange noises caused by things plugged into PC.

Try a clean boot and see if it changes anything - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

It doesn’t delete anything, it just stops non Microsoft programs running with start. Easy to reverse.

if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program. You should, over a number of startups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.

Are you saying that this only occurs during videos while they're running on the internet, but if you play a video from your internal disk it sounds normal? What browser are you using when the sound occurs and are there any add-ons or extensions running with the browser when the sound occurs? Your description makes it sound like the problem is caused by the internet or browser playback software, not the motherboard or other hardware. Also what do you mean you installed a new codec? No codecs not already built into windows are necessary so if you're loading codecs from a non-microsoft source they could be malware causing the noise to annoy you. Or it could be caused by one of your games; does it occur after a fresh windows install without any additional non-windows software loaded?

Sorry should’ve said this in the original post, when playing an MP4 through WMP offline it would exhibit the same behavior ( same with the game i was playing, spider man miles morales through steam). The browser I was using was firefox but it would also have the same problem when using edge.

the only addons i have installed are adblock plus and return youtube dislikes, both of which i installed after the problem started after i reinstalled windows.

this is gonna sound kind of dumb, but when I asked on reddit someone reccommended i download a k-lite codec pack to see if that would fix the issue, which didn’t do anything. I’m assuming this isn’t the cause again because i downloaded it way after the problem started as a possible solution.

Also just to be clear, I already reinstalled windows using the method that keeps your data but reinstalls everything else (not sure if that would change anything or not if i did a completely fresh install but that would only be my last resort because i don’t want to lose my data)

How much data do you have; do you have any off-line storage that you could move it to so that you could do a real windows fresh install? That may be your only alternative.
