I hope it does come out before the end of 2008. Also this is around the same time as the DLC on xbox and it would be nice if this extra content came with the PC release. This would be a nice way for rockstar to make up for keeping us waiting while they deal with the "pick me! pick me!" childish console war BS.

You have to remember that a lot of PC gamers resent consoles a sthey use PC technologies and then give PC's the shaft when it comes to games. Most games now are mainly console driven then ported to the PC, which usually sucks. There are very few PC titles that get ported to consoles now but those that do are best on PC such as HL2 and TF2.

Anywho. I know GTA IV will come to PC. Just be patient.

This is best line from this entire thread! Who cares about GTA VIXVX, it will be hear soon enough, but please people learn to use sPelE ChkcE.

I will keep spending $700 dollars each year on new components for a pc . If consoles are ripping off more and more out of the pc's why didnt they rip the best thing about them ? keyboard and mouse support for firs person shooters i hate Fps on consoles so much :fou:

Cuz the devs of consoles want your life to be a living hell for FPS games. Even with keyboard and mouse a PC will still have the best graphics and abilities for the games.

PC is all always will be the most powerful system whichever way u look at it. Ps3/xbox 360 are just low end budget computer builds but everyone is saying computers cost too much. Xbox has a ati (not sure the name (not exactly a G card ) which is a lil better than the ps3's 7900gt. couple of Psu's and and crappy (PS) drives later pretty much a computer. And no! none of the consoles support DX10. Otherwise titles such as Gears of war wouldnt have to be on pc before ported to dx10.

I understand there are different views sum like consoles some, some dont. The other thing really annoys me is that people waste near $1000AUS for a 'next-gen' console. This is not upgradeable, already outdated hardware and cant really sell it because nobody wants an old console and if you do sell it it wont be for half as much. And then they turn around buy a new release console and say PC are expensive, and lets not forget PC's do abit more then games. All console game are probably scripted on a computer and the OS's are probably also made from PC's.

A couple of years ago i came to the conclusion that Microsoft are ruining gaming. They betray the PC by paying large amounts of money to buy out game developers that make Pc and or console games and make them cancel the PC for their future releases. They also pay money to have weeks to months earlier release dates on xbox and then only show video footage and pre-reviews etc.. only in xbox footage or under xbox section on ign etc. This pulls people away from PC and therefore ruins the gaming industries past.

All in all. It comes down to one factor which all consoles money. The reason consoles were made was for money. Alot of People dont know how to make PC's or believe they are complicated or whatnot and are not interested in learning or going to a local computer store to get one custom built (not prebuild ie. HP). As i was saying consoles were made for money because pc gaming was becoming cheaper (piracy etc.) Now every consoles gamer has gone out b ought consoles and games and fallen straight into the trap and let theses companies take over and now gaming will never be wat is was. Now we are paying for what the consoles have done

Piracy?maybe true..SORY OOT in my country 1 DVD Pc Games only $ 1,5,cheapy yeah?n 1 DVD XBOx360 only $ 4...

Just to get back on topic, as I seem to remember the PC version of GTA games always gets released about 6 to 9 months after console release.
Hope this helps :)

I think Rockstar are trying to please everyone by releasing for consoles a few months before PC's.

Imagine if they released for consoles and PC at the same time. Console users would feel silly because their version of the game is twice as expensive and looks half as good as the PC version. So, a large part of their market is unhappy.

If they release it 6 months down the line, the PC version is still superior, has a bit more tweaking time, can eliminate any issues/bugs/etc that are discovered by the console guinea pigs, so PC users will still be happy, but the console users can say that they didn't have to wait and the PC version only looks better because new hardware came out or whatever other excuses they feel they need to make. So, everyone is happy! :)

Well, it kinda makes sense at least. 😛

My first post here. I had to sign up just because of this thread. So, with that said. First off there are no real numbers on piracy (unless you are the RIAA or Microsoft), and if it has effected the consumers choice in buying any thing. It's just impossible to find out if every person that downloaded something used it over buying the real deal. Thus never paying a dime. Just can't be done. An anonymous survey would do it, but then you have a large number of people that will not take it so the numbers would be incorrect.

Second, yes piracy for the PC technically would be bigger because PC just has more options. More software = more things to be pirated = larger stash of pirated stuff. Now does it matter. NO! Because there is no real facts or numbers to base any thing in to make a definitive statement. SO, you end up with people arguing around in circles.

Is piracy the reason of the wait in porting GTA from console to PC? No way. Porting code form one platform to another can be quite a pain in the butt particularly in the case of Console ported to PC. PC, X360, and PS3 while all built on variations of the same idea, they all have their quirks, and enough of them to call for caution. The biggest reason companies send out the console versions first (most of the time) is because they take more time to develop, and thus become top of the priority list. That way they have more time to finalize the product with in the aloted time frame. With the console version on the shelf, and running smooth the company is now making back the money they spent to put out that title. Eventually they look at it, and decide if its worth porting to the PC or not. Most companies just opt. not to. Not to mention the fact that good companies always put more in the PC version any way.

Lastly, will we see GTA 4 on PC? I hope so. It the reason I found this thread in the first place. and just like every one else said, it would probably be a year, but have better visuals with more content.

GTA3, Vice City, and San Andreas were released about a year after the console, yes; but what I haven't seen anyone post, is that they DON'T port the game. They rebuild and recode the game from the ground up. This makes the graphics much better, as it continues to be, no matter what beautiful game any console creates. I wish the game companies would all follow this pattern instead of exclusively releasing products for console only. There is just far more freedom of movement among other things on a PC.
The last ported game I ever played on the PC was Rebel Assault. Not too-too bad, but very clunky.

The only sets of games I will abdicate full superiority for consoles are sports games and fighting games (MK, Street Fighter, et. al.) Unless you're playing single player on a PC, those two types of games, generally SUCK on the PC. "Combat" on the Atari 2600 is better than any fight game on a PC. OK, enough of that off-tangent subject.

As for the delay thing, I can see the marketing end of why they do that. I agree with it, so long as we PC-only types get the game! Console games are far more difficult to pirate. One only has to look on gamecopyworld.com to see how quick a fixed .exe is made for a PC game.

Well, here's to hoping! ::raises glass::

PC's aren't POWERFUL enough, b3n?????

No console in history or future will EVERRRRRRRRRRRR out-power a PC in overall graphics capabilities! Reason being- they are stuck with their final hardware lineup. There is no upgrade. You can't hot-swap video or CPU components on a console. PC's constantly evolve!

Granted, no console game will ever lag, but that's because the software is made to run directly with a specific kind of hardware. On the computer its another story due to all the different components and software. It takes a lot more brain-power to make a PC game.

Looking at my post above in this thread, I must admit that I was somewhat unfair. I mean, suggesting that console games are designed for retarded people, well, that's just plain insulting to retarded people.

Kidding.

No, I was being pretty old-fogey there. But you have to admit there is a dearth of complex sims and truly sophisticated content on the consoles. And I don't agree with the assertion that you have to spend megabucks to have a decent gaming PC, but I don't want to go back into that argument here.

As far as PC-exclusivity is concerned, I really don't care. I mean, please, make your title for as many platforms as you want. Hell, I'd love to see a re-release of Deus Ex for the 360 and PS3. I have no interest in seeing the PC platform "win" something.

I just really, really would hate to see gaming go down the tubes as games are increasingly geared toward the lowest common denominator in the interest of maximizing corporate profits.

Never seen a console lag? I don't think you've played enough games. Sure, the old consoles didn't lag (i.e., 8- and 16-bit systems). Maybe even the PS and PS2 didn't lag, but I was more entrenched in PC gaming during those years. But the Xbox and 360? I've seen plenty of lag on both. Pretty sad, actually, considering the oft-mentioned hardware finality of consoles...

Oh. OK, I'm speaking out of school then. No, I haven't seen one lag. I was assuming they didn't. I've only seen a few games played.

Thanks for the heads up!

My Sega Genesis will lag and my N64 on certain games in certain parts.

That is the biggest Lie, consoles lag very much, a lot more than the PC. On top of that, Load times suck on consoles. You can attribute that to the amount of memory on the console: 256MB, come on get real. Just look at Oblivion 360 vs PC, HUGE difference in load times and frame rates. Its the reason why crysis will never be released in its full glory in this console generation.

The reason GTA IV won't release on the PC as there's simply no money in the platform. The PS3 and 360 version combined sold an estimated 4.2 million copies worldwide on launch day.

And, uh, how many billions of dollars has WoW made on the PC platform on which there is simply no money?

No money in the platform? What a load of crap. Retail sales may be down, but that's only because the PC games market is becoming more about online distribution. PC games sales are actually rising thanks to online distibution and the added protection against piracy that it brings (Steam anyone?). Anyway, even though the PS3 and XBox 360 versions have been released already, there are a huge ammount of PC gamers that will wait for the PC release and will avoid the console Beta versions. Rockstar can easily make far more money from PC sales than they will need to spend making it workable on a PC. They want to make a profit and I'd imagine, if they have any sense, that they don't want to alienate a large proportion of their consumer base.

Also, imagine if it had been released for the PC and consoles simultaneously. That day one figure would have been far higher and some of the PS3 and Xbox sales would never have happened as any gamer with a half decent rig would have bought it for their PC instead. I'm sure alot of the current sales are PC gamers who either don't want to wait or have bought into the BS that console fanboys spout about it never coming to a PC.

I saw a date somewhere for when it was expected to be released on PC, but can't seem to find it again anywhere... wether that was a confirmed date or not I don't know or think so but...

anyone seen anything about this? and don't just say 6months etc.. because of previous games... state a source

just curious...

thanks
