[SOLVED] ROG Strix b450-f gaming crashes NVIDIA or AMD GPU

Thanks for taking a look. This is a new build. I won a 480GB optane NVME PCI-E card at a trade show. I have not built a new PC in 10 years (but I have built several before then), but as a storage architect I felt obliged to build a system around this 500k IOP storage device. So I am rusty on building PC's. I was able to get everything installed on the first attempt and got a successful post. Windows 10 install went without issue, all devices showed up in device manager on the first boot. I have updated the BIOS and Chipset firmware with ASUS Grid. I have run this system for days with memtest running loops with no crashes. I have used multiple hardware monitors to watch GPU/CPU temps and seen nothing over 51c.

The symptom is after a few minutes of playing CIV6 or Battletech at Ultra settings (which run perfectly smoothly) the system reboots, no BSOD, nothing in the system event log except 'There was an unexpected shutdown'. I have tried disabling all of the auto OC settings in the BIOS, I have tried lowering VDDP to .9. I started out with an MSI OC Amor mk2 rx580 and had this issue. So I figured it was probably the problem so I bought an Asus GTX 2060 advanced, same exact issue, so I know the GPU is not the issue. I have ordered a replacement PSU, I presently have a Raidmax 730 W Semi-modular ATX Power Supply which was really well rated. PC Parts picker says I only needed around 400W PSU. I order a 80+ Gold 1050W Rosswill PSU to replace this one, but it does not arrive till Wednesday and I have my doubts this will fix the issue either.

Raidmax has not made a single good PSU to date, so i suspect this is the issue. The wattage is fine, but it is most likely garbage quality. You probably could buy a PSU like a Corsair CX550w and have it work perfectly even though it is many watts less than the Raidmax.

Thanks everyone, the Roswell PSU did the trick knock on wood over 1 hour at ultra settings no issues.

This was the first time I had seen a consumer modular PSU if I had known how much easier they were to cable I would have just got this one to begin with.
