Hello,

I have an HP touchsmart 300 with a pegatron APP78-CF. Jessie. I was in the process of updating bios when system crashed(froze). Now it seems it won't start and not sure how to perform a rom recovery. HP instructions only points to jumper position but not sure actual procedure.

Would appreciate any help. Thanks

removing jumper is the actual procedure. locate the jumper pins (usually 3 pins) on your motherboard -> close the unclosed pin with the jumper -> run computer for at least 10 secs -> shut computer -> put jumper back to where it was-> start computer again

Thanks BigB,

The header has 7 pins with two pairs open left of single pin and to the right has one pair where the jumper is normally located. removing the jumper and then turning on computer, I hear the fan run at fast speed and after waiting at least 10 secs, I then turn off the computer and replace the jumper back in it's normal position. Turning the computer back on, still no video and now I hear two long beeps with a pause in between. Hp documents state that two beeps for ami bios : ROM file not found in root directory ...

Any ideas what rom file I need to place in the root directory?

Thanks for any help.

thats not the pins i was talking about, and doing something without knowing or reading from the documentation may have caused your motherboard to blow up. eitherway the documentation tells you where the rom recovery pins are, if there is any. else you need a new motherboard.

So your information is confusing and mis-leading either way I was just looking for assistance and wasn't prepared to be given such a doom outlook.

This is the link that led me to believe I could reset the ROM to recover the previous version : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01925524&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4193585&tmp_track_link=ot_search#N659

There you can see that the "red arrow" points to the blue jumper located on the last two pins and just to the right of the single pin on a 7pin header (actually 8 pin header with one pin missing). As well as most of Hp's documentation is, this particular step left out the info what to do with the jumper - one has to guess or take advice from boards like this on what is the actual procedure.

At the moment, when powering on the system, about a minute or so, I hear two long beeps and then a pause. Reading the beep codes for an ami bios it tells me that corresponds to "missing rom file from boot disk" Now I can't find any instructions on what the resolution or fix is for this problem. Tried looking for a Pegatron support site or Asus for that matter. Can't find a thing.

I really like this computer ... just wish it had better support or that it was not such a problematic design. Thanks for your help, regardless!

Sincerely,

Frustrated with diminishing likes to HP products!

did it work?

merry gave you advice and that was the final entry...so did that advice work? or did you find other advice that worked. or do you have a bricked computer still?

the CD data recovery can only be used if the bios in rom is working properly otherwise there is no interface to correct problem.

I extracted the downloadable bios exectuable from Hp and will remove hard drive, install it in a external hard drive enclosure, copy all the files into root directory, reinstall back into computer and see if it will complete the bios rom recovery when restarted. I will feedback my results - probably this weekend.

Thanks.
