Has anyone with a Rosewill Thor V2 run into a problem with BSOD or similar crash occuring when inserting a USB3/2 connector or just contacting the front panel USB socket with anything conductive? This happens almost every time when I contact the edge of any of the four USB sockets on the Thor V2 front panel. Back panel motherboard sockets have no problems. The front headphone jack causes no problem (the few times I tried it). Is there a known issue with grounding? Mobo is a ASUS Z68 Pro.

Thanks
CSM

Solution
I had a couple of cases that did this but not Rosewill. I review computer hardware and have had grounding problems where the power supply did not have a very good ground to the chassis because of a painted case. If you scrap a little spots bare around where the case touches the power supply to ensure good ground you should get rid of this problem if it is due to grounding. When I made sure of a good connection between case and PSU my problems with this went away completely in two different cases.

Sounds like you are shorting out on the chassis. I would check to see if you have (1) exposed wires contacting the case, or (2) mainboard contact on or near standoffs. You could very well be grounding out on the USB connection as well.

Thanks for you reply Jeff. The problem seems to revolve around strong static discharge from me (or my wife) to the case or the USB connector ground contacts. Apparently it did not occur when I tried the connectors at the back of the case because I would inadvertently ground myself as I reached for the back of the case to plug in. I was not able to reproduce the effect at all when I brought the computer to a different location for someone else to check over. I have checked for continuity from the case to power supply grounds and that seems fine. I will hook up a grounding strip that we will use to discharge our static before contacting the case. The room where this machine is used has a plush pile carpet and generally low humidity in the winter. I think that and the fabrics we wear in winter were contributing to an extreme static problem. I have scrapped a bit of paint away from the PSU/case contact and hope this will help provide a bit better protection. Thanks for your tip!

I have the EXACT case & problem you're having. I understand scraping paint to make better contact, the problem is that these THOR cases, similar to most new cases, has foam padding inside the case between where the PSU mounts and the case itself. (vibration dampening)

So my question is, how would I resolve this, would I remove the foam padding all together and scratch off the paint off around the screw points? Or what did you end up doing 'csm60' ??

Thanks in advance
