This is sort of a rough outline of my new system. I already purchased the case, psu, keyboard, mouse, and speakers. I've been happy with Acer monitors, that one would probably suit me just fine, but perhaps I'll go another $50 and get a larger 27" display.
Don't let the gaming keyboard fool you. I'm not much of a gamer, I just thought the keyboard was cool, and that maybe there's some off chance that I might dabble with games. But I'm in my late-40's and I doubt it. I'll likely go with a familiar Linux distro, and whereas there's a remote possibility I might load Windows alongside Linux, it's sort of remote. I don't really want to.
I guess I'm leaning toward Intel even in the face of a lot of this current movement towards Ryzen. Mainly because integrated graphics still make sense to me, unless I game, and I don't, so there we go.
But, I don't really have my mind made up on most of these components that I haven't already purchased. And I probably won't finish purchasing/building this thing until late '17. Plenty of time to let some of these components sit in the closet and see if Coffee Lake compels me toward some grand epiphany. We'll see.
I know the 1050 Ti and 1060 are much better graphics cards than the one I selected there, but I'm just always so appalled at how much the things cost... I'm sure if I was a seasoned gamer I would pay any price for speed and higher fps. I'm not even sure I'll feel like getting a discrete card. (hence Intel) That's about it. I just saw those Seagate hybrid drives last night, seem like an interesting concept.
Any thoughts?
