Router and Access Point - Leave both on?

I have Verizon Fios and re-purposed a Quantum Gateway G1100 router into an access point on the second floor of my house. Since I don't have Fios TV, the Fios connection comes in straight to a cheapie wireless TP-Link router in the basement. I have an Ethernet port on the second floor which is fed from this TP-Link and where the G1100 is connected. I've disabled the 5Ghz modem on the G1100 because of its weaker signal strength. I've setup both the TP-Link and G1100 with the same SSID and password. My question is, should I disable the wireless modem on the basement TP-Link router? I don't really need it now that I have the one on the second floor setup. I'm not sure how these things work as far as if the two signals would interfere with each other and cause any slow downs being that they're both 2.4Ghz. If they don't then I'm happy to leave both routers live but if there are any advantages/disadvantages to leaving the basement one on/off, please let me know. Thank you.

Turn the TP-Link WiFi off.
If you can get a good signal through the house with just the G1100, then all is good.
Being in the basement, it's probably not doing a lot anyway.

I have that G1100 as the only router/WiFi source in the house, and it works just fine.

Are there any disadvantages to leaving it on? i.e signal interference between the two, etc.?

Are they on the same channel? If so, move one to a different channel.
