Router and PC with same mac address. Possible?

I have a FTTH broadband connection. Modem supplied with the connection has one port and my PCs mac address is registered with that modem. (to get net access i need to use that mac address)

Problem:
I have a 300 mbps tp-link wireless router and its wan port speed is 100 mbps. I get the maximum of 280 mbps when i connect directly. But when i connect through my tp-link router speed goes down to 94mbps. (router wan port speed is 100mbps)
Now what i want is to connect to the pc with direct connection and also to the router. To do that i will be needing a network switch and my tp-link router r mac address will be cloned to desktop pcs mac address.
Can i use a network switch? If yes then will it not create any problem because of having same mac address on both pc and router? Or any other solution?

You can set the same mac on both devices and you can connect it with a switch but it won't really work. If we ignore the duplicate IP problems what the switch would do is send the traffic to port it last saw traffic from the mac on.

What you get in effect is packets being almost randomly sent to the devices. That is the whole purpose of a mac address to make sure the traffic gets back to the proper machine.

Your only real option is to buy a router with gigabit ports.

Yes i know that but the main reason for not buying a new router is for my mobos killer Ethernet. I can set priority for different apps. I don't think i can do that with a router. Gaming will be nightmare if someone starts downloading at a full speed!!
Any solution for this?

Some routers have QoS on them but you are correct it still does not completely solve the issue. Just activating the QoS feature on many router will limit your top speed . On slower connection you generally do not notice but on fast ones like yours you may not be able to get the full speed with the feature on. You would need a router with a very fast cpu to even attempt it.

Killer feature is all smoke and mirrors anyway. It can not affect traffic outside the machine. Sure it can limit traffic between applications ON the machine itself. What good does that really do. Why would you download huge stuff when you want performance out of games...much simpler to not do stupid stuff and then expect some magic program to fix it.

I suspect you in general will not even have issues with a connection that fast. The only real thing that can use 300mbps is torrent. Most downloads are limited by other stuff. Many of the sites have artificial limits and other the distance to the site limits the speed.

You may be fine with a agreement from other uses to set the download limits in the clients. Anyone who is running torrents should be asked to buy their own internet connection.

Actually i had two internet connection. But i disconnected the older one because I'm satisfied with my new connection. The problem is that my family members uses the same wifi I'm using. They do not download much but watches a lot of YouTube videos. 280mbps is basically effective for torrent, steam and origin. The annonying thing is that i don't even get full 100mbps with this 300mbps router!!
I don't think buying a new gigabit router will solve the problem!! I have seen so many people complaining about for not getting the same speed even with a gigabit router that they used to get through direct connection!!
I download a lot. So getting 280mbps in torrent is a big thing for me

That is because the wireless speeds are all lies...err marketing. Even with the very best routers talking to a very rare nic that has 4 antenna does not get 300mbps on many of the testing sites unless you sit on top of the router. Most so called 300mbps routers get maybe 40-50mbps.

Youtube takes nothing when you are talking 280mbps. Even netflix 4k movies only use about 25mbps.

Stream seldom downloads much over 100mbps, there appears to be some limitation on the server end.

Still all the download software you list all has the ability to cap the usage in the application. So you should be able to prevent issues. Still it uses CPU and memory so I would not be running it on my gaming machine anyway.
