Hi,

I bought D-Link DIR-809 (Wireless AC750 Dual Band Router) and I am not able to set it up.
Whenever I connect the router to the internet, it becomes unreachable.
I can access 192.168.0.1 only when I unplug it from the internet, like this:

PC ------- Router ---x--- Internet

This is ipconfig when I am directly connected to the internet. Everything works fine.

PC ------- Internet

Ethernet adapter Ethernet:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : stud-bolig.himolde.no
Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::d870:d2e2:c88f:7dfe%14
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 158.38.88.148
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.254.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 158.38.88.1

This is what I get, when I connect the router and a computer while the router is disconnected

Ethernet adapter Ethernet:

Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

ipconfig is the same when I plug the router in the Internet, but suddenly 192.168.0.1 loads forever.

EDIT: If I restart a computer, I have no Default Gateway. And IPv4 adress is 169.254.125.254.

Chrome says waiting for 192.168.0.1.

Pinging

Everything OK.

Suddenly I get request time outs.

As soon as I plug the router out from the Internet, the 192.168.0.1 loads and ping is <1ms again.

I tried to reset the router, plug it out for a while and then turn it on again and I also tried to update firmware. Nothing helps though,
I am still not able to access the router when it's connected to the Internet.

Anyone knows what should I do to fix the problem? I would appreciate any idea. Thank you,

Best regards,
Tomas

Is your router configured as a DHCP server? If so, it should have a LAN static IP address like 192.168.0.1 and provide DHCP addresses from 192.168.0.2 (or higher) to 192.168.0.254 (or whatever range you prefer. You are connecting the modem to the INTERNET port?
