I have my computer plugged directly into the router. For the past few days I've been getting 18 MB/s download speed when I usually get about 3 MB/s. While on my laptop in the living room (the laptop is connected to the wifi) it was only getting 30 KB/s our internet speed on the router is actually at 18 MB/s download and around that with upload speed too. I do not know what to do. We have Time Warner for our internet

Wired internet will ALWAYS be much faster. The spec says that wireless router should be good for 300 Mbit link rate. Do you have your wireless encryption set to "WPA2" ? It won't run faster than 54Mbit without WPA2.

I don't have Win 10, but if you open the windows task manager, there should be a "networking" tab. That should show the bit rate at the most basic level for WIFI.

Have you checked to see if your router is set to a channel where there are other competing WIFI signals? If you have an Android device, "WIFI Analyzer" from the play store is a great way to see what WIFI signals are in your area.

The router is an Ubee Ddw3611 cable router. (I don't understand the link rate sorry, BTW I have Windows 10) I was measuring my speeds on Ookla and by simply downloading something on the internet. Thanks for the speedy response
