Question RTX 2070 from GTX 1070

So that's the question. I have a GTX 1070. I see that my card would sell for almost 400. I had a very brief chance at a 3060 and was going to get it, but it was sold out before I could get to Microcenter. They actually had them for MSRP. Anyway, was looking and found an EVGA RTX 2070 for about 649. Do you think that is a worthwhile upgrade? I also hear the 6600xt comes out on the 11th.

Current system

Ryzen 5 3600
AsRock AB350 Pro 4
16gb ddr4 3000mhz
256gb nvme boot drive
1tb sata ssd
2 1tb spinners
Cooler Master MB511 case with 6 case fans
Using a Vetroo v5 cpu cooler, have another fan on the way to set up push/pull

Power supply is a powerspec 750 bronze unit. Could probably use an upgrade.

Current card is a Zotac GTX 1070 mini

It's a good card, but starting to get the upgrade itch. Have a 27 inch freesync monitor 144hz that works well with the 1070 with GSync compatibility. Resolution is 1080p.

Thoughts?

Hmm IDk
This is My 1st rtx card and my son has never paid any attention to it, so hopefully someone will lets us both know.

I use hwinfo64 and gpu-z for monitoring I'll try to pay some attention.

I got my 2080 to about 2080 mhz and mem to 7500mhz at 1.01v undervolted.
It still run about 59c

It at least there one I have seems fine as stability and working.

As far as the 2070 in general from what I read it’s the speed of a gtx 1080. I had a gtx 1070, so I guess my response is that the card is fine.

in other words it’s an improvement from a 1070 and it runs and plays games better than the 1070, but the 1070 at 1080p still has some gas in the tank. For the 600, I paid the 2070 in this market is a good deal. In a normal market, I would say used the 2070 is a 250-300 dollar card.

They say hindsight is 20/20, in hindsight maybe I should have just waited and gotten the 6600xt from Microcenter, which is about 40-45 minutes away.

To be completely fair though, by the time storms stopped last night and I actually got the card installed and the system running, it was after 11pm, so I was probably tired(I have the day off today).

Cool. I think the 2070 was topping out at 70, and hotspot got to 87. Either way it seems to be working good. But to update…
I went to Microcenter today and they still had the 6600xt for 439. So I pulled the trigger on it. The salesman didn’t seem to think the pci lanes/ generation was an issue. I had seen some videos and they seemed to show little or no difference except one game that lost 20% performance but it was still at 3060 level performance.

Battlefield 5 looks good maxed on a 144hz 1080p screen. So the 2070 as far as I know is working and is going up for sale. Hopefully I can recoup my original money on it.

Link to the 6600xt I bought. Almost msrp. Glad I got it. The site before I left said they had 25+. They are down to 22 now, and the guy said they were starting to run low.

Very decent price!!!
Good thing for DDU!!!!
Only time and results will guide you.
Good thing Micro Center gives 30 days except on Cpu and Mobo's.
At times I was really rushed on cpu / Mobo's being gone from town 10-12 days (gone 5-6 days a week) in their 15 day exchange for those parts.

Yeah I’m glad that I happened to be off today. I’ll sell the 2070, but when I saw the price on the 6600xt and it’s faster than the 2070, it was tempting. A friend of mine is pushing me to go to 1440p, I’m still on a 27 inch 144hz screen. Although I may save up because I saw they had a 32 inch curved 1080p gaming monitor. Then I could give my wife my 27 inch for her home office. 1440p would be nice, but like I told my friend, running 1080p is easier. Especially with prices on gpus today I think I’ll stay on 1080p a while longer. But hopefully the 6600xt will tide me over for a year or 2 anyway.

A day or so ago they had some cards at 379.99, but those were gone.

My monitor for a very long time was a 24in Vizio tv 1080p 60hz that road over some very rough roads we have across the US.
It still works but I decided to upgrade after seeing what my son's xmas presents actually looked like.
So I bought this

Currently about $50 less then what I paid.

Even with the 1070 ti I could run it in ultra but ya fps was 40-50's so i had a mixed bag to keep higher frames, but now every thing on ultra It' s WOW!!!! What a differnce.

Enjoy keep us Updated!!!!

I think I’m going to save up for this monitor. Yes I have a 27inch 144hz flat monitor, so yes I’m splitting hairs lol. And yes things do look good on my current screen, and I could go to 1440p, but as I said 1080p is easier to run and 32 inch should be a great size. I’m aware some games might look slightly pixelated, but I don’t mind on my current monitor, and I can put it in my wife’s home office. Plus at 1080p I should have no issues running games longer, so this new card may do well as a 2-3 or so year card. Plus I’m spoiled to high FPS lol.

Now just trying to find some different games to play. I like the assassins creed games, and shooters but I don’t go for a lot of blood or swearing. If those things are there I’m ok if they can be turned down or turned off similar to the gears games.

Rather than getting the 6600XT, get an RTX 2070, or an RTX 2070 super if you can. I've seen benchmarks online, the 2070 super out-performs the 3060. You'll have a 25-30% performance boost in an RTX 2070, maybe 35-40% in the RTX 2070 super. Also, I had a Zotac 1060 6GB mini, I know how bad the mini cards are.

2070 and 3060 has similar performance while 6600 xt performs slightly better and is on par with 5700 xt but with more efficiency. Only difference worth considering are TDPs of cards. Otherwise all very similar. Any card of the lot will do the same job. Go for the cheapest option.
