[SOLVED] RTX 3060 good enough for 3440x1440 high setting 60fps?

My 3440x1440p monitor is capable of 100hz fresh rate, my goal is to generate 60 fps on high settings. Would you recommend a RTX 3060 or 3060 Ti? Would 3060 Ti's 8GB ram (vs 12GB for 3060) make it actually worse for 3440x1440? My current GPU has 6GB and it occationally runs out of RAM.

Note that I have an old CPU : i5-6600K OC@4.5ghz. It doesn't seem to bottleneck much tho. Tested with Forza Horizon 5 and Resident Evil Village, the CPU produced well over 100 FPS. I'm not sure either 3060 or 3060 Ti can top that at 3440x1440 high.

Well for some perspective, i play at 3440x1440 with a RTX 2060 Super, and I can hit 55-60FPS at HIGH settings (not ultra) in all my AAA titles including Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Warzone the last time I played it. Heck even BF2042. (let that sink in for a sec)

So yeah, of course with a RTX 3060 you'll easily hit that, no problems at all. Will it happen in every game? Probably not. Will it happen in most all titles, yes definitely.

Though preferably get the 3060 Ti if possible, that'll last you far longer at that resolution.

I'm currently using a 3060 Ti for 2560x1440 and can play most of my games maxed out above 60 FPS. Sometimes a lot higher 120+ depending on what game it is so I think a 3060 Ti would be better suited. It's much faster than a normal 3060

I know this thread is not new but I have a 2060 and I can play almost everything above 60-100....On Linux!

You really need to make use of DLSS, GSYNC/FreeSync & nvidia's compare sites.

DLSS alone is unbelieveable. Gsync/freesync can make 50fps feel like 60-75. Gsync in addition to DLSS? Perfect combination.

The NVIDIA sites can scrape you at least 10fps, if not more, due to the great analysis between each setting (low vs mid, high vs off etc.) that they do there.

It does add up and can make a very noticeable difference. Especially DLSS.

The 3060 is not really extraodinarly better than the 2060 by the way, so it's not 100% future proof but enough absolutely

Hi thanks for your input, this is very helpful. What Nvidia site were you referring to? Not reallying trying to future proof, as I will pairing this new GPU with an old CPU. I just want to have a reasonable gaming experience for a few more years, at which point I will build a whole new gaming rig.

No worries, I usually search the game's name & nvidia compare or settings.

Here's the page for control (you may need to scroll a bit): https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/guides/control-graphics-and-performance-guide/

The interactive side by side comparisons are amazing to make up your decision, here's an example:

AAA games, no. Some games like Forza or Tom Clancy's games, yes.

Horrible time to buy. Prices will bottom out around late August/September.

You can play most triple A stuff if you tweak around enough. I played Cyberpunk 77 on my 2060 before 1.2 with DLSS and GSync @ 3440x1440 perfectly fine.

Sure you should get the higher cards but it's not like the end of the world.
