Hi all, got a question, ok so I'm playing elden ring and I'm using an rtx 3080 paired with i7 9700(non k) using a H60 Corsair liquid cooling, 16gb of ram (not in dual channel), gammix m.2 256 gb (about 20% free space), monitor is a 144hz at 1440p, and I'm playing at max graphic options.

Ok the thing is, i used some benchmarks and in all of em my video card is working at 99% no problem and it gives optimum performance, But when i play elden ring the fps are about 50 +- and i see the video card working at 70% +- temps about 75°, the i7 working at 50-70% usage and temps around 70°, then i see many videos in YouTube of people with similar specs getting stable 60 fps 95% of the time, and if they uncap the fps you can see their GPU working at 99-100% and getting 80+ fps easily (all this on open field, on my same resolution and max graphic options), if i uncap the fps i get the GPU still working at 75%-80 it won't max out. So my question is: is my cpu bottlenecking the 3080?, Or it's a common elden ring performance problem, thanks in advance for any help, i wanted to know what you guys think before i spent on a new processor.

Solution
one of the i7 cores is working over 90% pretty much at all times. so, i guess the 3080 is kind of big for that cpu...
More likely it's due to the cpu being starved of memory bandwidth.

also the memory dual channel thing, tried with cyberpunk 2077 and its even worst there, RTX ultra settings, and the gpu is at like 50-70% and the cpu is over 80-90% usage.
Cyberpunk ≠ Elden Ring.
Different games, different engines, hits your hardware differently.

Aye, good luck!

the i7 working at 50-70% usage
Must look at each core when it comes to the cpu, not whole usage. Games designate a single core/thread that handles every single command run from the engine - even tasks assigned to other cores/threads.

16gb of ram (not in dual channel)
That wouldn't be helping. In single channel, almost half the memory bandwidth available to the cpu isn't present, and it operates slower as a result.
The cpu and ram work together.

Elden Ring PC port is borked. Whether different, or similar setups to you, some users are running the game with minor issues, and others have a hell of a time trying to start the game or enter its world.

oh i see, actually you are right, one of the i7 cores is working over 90% pretty much at all times. so, i guess the 3080 is kind of big for that cpu, also the memory dual channel thing, tried with cyberpunk 2077 and its even worst there, RTX ultra settings, and the gpu is at like 50-70% and the cpu is over 80-90% usage. ill be updating to a 12600k and use the dual channel this time, that should do the trick. thanks a lot for your help!

wow, you just saved my ass lol, fixed my rams sticks into the dual channel configuraiton, and even when the cpu usage is still high the frames went up a lot, areas that gave me 45/50 are giving me 60-80, and my ram sticks are different frecuency one os 2400 and the other one 2600+ i believe, ill get a pair that match with a higher frecuency!, THANKS A LOT! you made my night!! :D
