Hello, I'm having issues with a new computer I just built.
In all other games I'm getting performance in line with what I expect at 1440p. (Ex: Apex max settings 200 fps, Rocket League max settings 400 fps, Cyberpunk 2077 ray tracing max settings 80 fps)
Minecraft, however, is performing comparatively extremely poorly. The screenshot below shows 108 FPS, but that's after all of the chunks loaded in. I'm consistently dropping to 60 or below when actually rendering in new chunks and moving around.
Here are 3 screenshots:
F3 menu: https://ibb.co/zsCF76D
Graphics settings: https://ibb.co/sQTB34F
System usage: https://ibb.co/DfjZCBb
As stated, my system is as follows:
CPU: i7-10700k
GPU: RTX 3080ti
RAM: 16GBx2 Corsair Vengeance 3600MHz
Motherboard: NZXT N7 Z590
Drive: Samsung 970 Evo M.2
PSU: Corsair RM850X
This performance is worse than my old computer (GTX 1080, i7-6700k) considerably, and far worse than I expected it to be. In isolation, the CPU usage seems correct, as Minecraft is extremely single-thread bound, so a single core running at 50% is essentially full throttle. The GPU usage being at 7% seems concerning.
I have tried reinstalling, and trying other versions of the game to no avail. I have tried an Optifine install, which helps by about a factor of 4 (tends to stay around 300-400 fps), which is concerning in its own right, as Optifine should not be giving such a large increase in performance. As far as I'm aware, I should be getting far better performance with this hardware, and as such I believe there is something going wrong settings or software-wise.
I have ensured the RAM is running at full speed in the correct slots (A2&B2), I have tried allocating more RAM to the game (4gb, 6gm, 12gb, all with no improvement), I have tried installing Minecraft instead on a SATA SSD, I have checked the nVidia control panel (There's no option there for onboard graphics vs. 3080ti, I can only assume it always runs on the 3080ti). I'm pretty much at the end of my knowledge for how to further troubleshoot.
Any advice is welcome, and if there's any question I'll do my best to answer. Thanks!
