[SOLVED] RTX 3080ti, i7-10700K low performance in specifically Minecraft.

Hello, I'm having issues with a new computer I just built.
In all other games I'm getting performance in line with what I expect at 1440p. (Ex: Apex max settings 200 fps, Rocket League max settings 400 fps, Cyberpunk 2077 ray tracing max settings 80 fps)

Minecraft, however, is performing comparatively extremely poorly. The screenshot below shows 108 FPS, but that's after all of the chunks loaded in. I'm consistently dropping to 60 or below when actually rendering in new chunks and moving around.

Here are 3 screenshots:
F3 menu: https://ibb.co/zsCF76D
Graphics settings: https://ibb.co/sQTB34F
System usage: https://ibb.co/DfjZCBb

As stated, my system is as follows:
CPU: i7-10700k
GPU: RTX 3080ti
RAM: 16GBx2 Corsair Vengeance 3600MHz
Motherboard: NZXT N7 Z590
Drive: Samsung 970 Evo M.2
PSU: Corsair RM850X

This performance is worse than my old computer (GTX 1080, i7-6700k) considerably, and far worse than I expected it to be. In isolation, the CPU usage seems correct, as Minecraft is extremely single-thread bound, so a single core running at 50% is essentially full throttle. The GPU usage being at 7% seems concerning.

I have tried reinstalling, and trying other versions of the game to no avail. I have tried an Optifine install, which helps by about a factor of 4 (tends to stay around 300-400 fps), which is concerning in its own right, as Optifine should not be giving such a large increase in performance. As far as I'm aware, I should be getting far better performance with this hardware, and as such I believe there is something going wrong settings or software-wise.

I have ensured the RAM is running at full speed in the correct slots (A2&B2), I have tried allocating more RAM to the game (4gb, 6gm, 12gb, all with no improvement), I have tried installing Minecraft instead on a SATA SSD, I have checked the nVidia control panel (There's no option there for onboard graphics vs. 3080ti, I can only assume it always runs on the 3080ti). I'm pretty much at the end of my knowledge for how to further troubleshoot.

Any advice is welcome, and if there's any question I'll do my best to answer. Thanks!

Try this step by step (read till end):
  • Disconnect from internet
  • Uninstall gpu driver DDU (clean and do not restart).
  • Uninstall all the processors and the chipset in system device (if available) on device manager (should be 16 on yours, also when it asks for restart, click on no) like this:
    unknown.png

    Chipset(skip if there is none):
    unknown.png
  • Restart the pc to bios, and update to the latest bios. Then go to bios again after update and load default or optimized settings, then save and exit

  • boot up to windows and install the latest Chipset driver, reboot, and connect to internet.

  • Install the latest nvidia driver.

*do this all offline until reboot after installing chipset driver, also you may reboot to bios after all of this to set the XMP (and previous settings you did) and make sure ram is on slot 2 and 4 if you use 2 sticks. Download needed files (highlighted word) before doing step 1, do the step by orders.

  • And check windows update (and optional updates) if there is any and install them (except chipset in optional update). Enable hardware accelerated graphics scheduling (available in the latest windows update) in graphics settings and reboot, it should be like this:
    unknown.png
Make sure the psu connected to the gpu is 1 pcie cable per 1 slot (use main cable, not the branches/split) like this:

Try what Koekieezz recommended. I'd also recomment to install OptiFine, even if Koekieezz's solution works. Gives you just that performance that you're missing out on when not using OptiFine.

yup, optifine is the life saver for minecraft, also a good mod combined like phosphor, lithium, sodium (not using forge + optifine, just pure forge and the mods), could actually increase the game performance as i did that in version 1.16.5 (using java 8 and java 11), but for the latest minecrafte version, it seems because they moved from java 11 to java 16 (which is not long term like java 8/11), it hurts the performance, well the sodium phosphor lithium mod didn't work propperly, so yeah if you want to use these 3 mods gotta wait till it's updated.
