Question RTX 3090 with Repeated Issues

Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing ongoing issues with my RTX 3090 and could use some advice. Over the past few months, I've had crashes in multiple games, and despite replacing several components including the GPU (RMA through ASUS), PSU, motherboard, processor, and adding 16GB of RAM with a new cooler yet the problem persists.

The issue is consistent: everything runs smoothly for about an hour before the game crashes. This has occurred in Diablo IV (hourly crashes, regardless of activity) and most recently in Avowed (Steam edition). Troubleshooting solutions found online haven't resolved the issue.

Current PC Specs:

  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B650E Aorus Master ATX AM5
  • Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB (4 x 16GB) DDR5-6200 CL36
  • Storage: PCIe Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB (among others)
  • GPU: Asus Strix Gaming OC GeForce RTX 3090 24GB
  • PSU: Corsair RM1200x SHIFT 1200W 80+
I've been monitoring temperatures using various tools (the same ones that previously identified my faulty GPU heatsink). Under load, temps remain within normal parameters. I've also run repeated OCCT stability tests on my CPU, memory, and GPU, with no issues detected.

At this point, I'm at a loss and hesitant to continue replacing parts without a clearer direction. If anyone has insight into potential causes or next steps, I'd really appreciate the help. Let me know if additional details would be useful, and I’ll provide them ASAP.

Thanks in advance!

Note: I have also reformatted my PC, rebuilt it from scratch (twice), ensured all of my drivers are up to date (including Windows updates). Just wanted to be sure I mentioned that. I am a hobbyist, but not a complete goof.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB (4 x 16GB) DDR5-6200 CL36
Can you check and see what the PCB revisions on the sticks are? Got a link to the ram kits you're working with?

Storage: PCIe Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB (among others)
Please list all storage drives hooked up to your motherboard.

Motherboard: Gigabyte B650E Aorus Master ATX AM5
What BIOS version are you currently on for your motherboard? Speaking of motherboard's did you reinstall the OS after a motherboard swap? Installing the OS in offline mode, later installing all necessary drivers for your platform in an elevated command? You didn't mention your OS as well.

You've mentioned crash about 3 times, can you elaborate on what you're referring to as a crash? Game exists to desktop? System reboots?

Hello, and thanks! I actually have another account that is flagged as "ancient" or something, but it was using the username I had when I was a kid and it made me cringe >.> <.<

Thank you, nonetheless! I'll do my best to answer your questions:

First, as far as the crashes are concerned, in Diablo IV, for example, I was crashing every hour while playing. I never specifically timed it, but I made a few mental notes that no matter what I was doing, I would crash around the 1 hour mark. I started exiting the game just before that window, and managed to stop the crashes.

The crashes themselves would cause a Fenris Error dialogue to display, and bring me back to my desktop. I do have a few of the logs for those crashes, if you're interested.

As for Avowed, I have crashed at less predictable intervals, although the crashes are never immediate. I would say that they also have only been occurring after at least an hour or so of game play. However, those also take me to a dialogue box, I believe the Avowed ones say "Fatal Error" and return me to desktop.

Memory: I can check for the PCB in a bit, but here is the ram kits currently in use! I have four sticks installed (64GB).

Storage: I just downloaded CrystalDiskInfo to gather that information, as I figured it was important.

C: Samsung SSD 980 PRO 2TB : 2000.3 GB
Transfer mode/Current Mode: PCIe 4.0 x4 | PCIe 4.0 x4

D: SanDisk SD8SBBU480G1122: 480.1 GB
Transfer mode/Current Mode: SATA/600 | SATA 600

E: WDC WD10EZEX-00BN5A0 : 1000.2 GB
Transfer mode/Current Mode: SATA/600 | SATA/600

F: Samsung SSD 970 EVO 1TB : 1000.2 GB
Transfer mode/Current Mode: PCIe 3.0 x4 | PCIe 3.0 x4

All are listed as "Good", for what that's worth.
