News RTX 5070 Ti listings appear on US and EU retailers, some at nearly double the MSRP

If these are going to be the prices, might be better to buy a last gen card if you can find one and hold out a while. I’m glad I picked up my 7900xtx for 800 last month just before stock ran out. The more gpu news I see at least nvidia the more that seems to have been a good move.

Last gen Nvidia simply isn't an option if you are looking for cheaper prices. 4080 Supers are still $1600-1800. The 7900xtx is literally the only decent last gen card available for MSRP.

Thats fine, but doesn't nVidia produce the FE version? nevermind, they arent doing a 5070 seems.
Apple secured a good supply chain and manufacturing infrastructure years ago, Nvidia is relatively a newcomer to producing cards. They have never really made a genuine effort to enter the market and compete with their own partners either.

The incentives for Apple and Nvidia are also different. If you can’t get an iPhone because of supply issues and channel markups and scalpers, you won’t have an incentive to go download a bunch of new apps and buy AirPods and such to pair with it. Nvidia, however, gives away CUDA and GameWorks and such, and if you can’t get a GPU to run them because of supply issues and channel markups and scalpers that’s a you problem, and they can paint themselves as the good guy for allowing you the “privilege” of paying full MSRP for a FE card.

Especially with the 50-series, the FE cards don’t seem to be a genuine competitor to AIB’s so much as to keep perceptions anchored to MSRP.

This right here.

It's no different than a car manufacturer saying "all new models starting at [$]." Doesn't mean you will actually get a car for that price.

Before official announcement, I was expecting $1300 for the 5080. I was pleasantly surprised when it was announced for $1000. But that was just good guy marketing. Soon the reality hit that AIB boards would all be more expensive, then the tariffs hit, and now my initial prediction was low.

With the 5090 and 5080 they produced a couple dozen FE cards so people thought they were reasonably priced, with the rest it seems they can’t even be bothered to make a few so they can pretend MSRP isn’t a lie.

Apple doesn't make anything nearly as complicated as a modern graphics card. Lots of manufacturers make phones technologically as good as apple, so it's not difficult.

I would give it about 6 months before thinking of buying a new card. I would guess by then, the manufacturing process will be humming along and most driver issues will be resolved. And maybe even power cable melting will be a thing of the past.

Apple makes more than phones, and their integrated M silicon contains advanced GPUs. The PCBs that silicon is attached to is just as advanced as anything else on the market. I don't like the direction Apple has been going when it comes to the fully integrated solutions, but it does have some positive performance aspects. (I don't think the rest of the industry is too far away from making similar choices)

As to the other comment, Both Nvidia and Apple use TSMC and Foxconn primarily, so not sure, securing supply chain, makes as much sense in reality. Basically all made in the same places with the same component suppliers. Both Apple and Nvidia have the capital to get what they want.

It's not like a GPU is a necessity...just don't buy a GPU, especially if you don't have a business to run that may require one.
Boycott the GPU market till prices come down, & they will if we all stick together & don't buy the shiny new GPUs.
However therein lies the problem, we don't & probably never will all stick together.
Speaking for myself, HELL no I won't go.

The new GPUs were sold out at twice an already high MSRP. Every new generation gamers prove they love spending enormous amounts of money, and every new generations gets more expensive. Simple as that.

Enjoy your protest, I guess, I gave up years ago and started enjoying watching TV or going for walks instead of gaming.

Thing is I don't game often, last game I played was BG3, before that Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Witcher 3 & that covers the last 10 yrs or so.
Don't mind the increase in MSRP, but unfortunately prices on GPUs are double to triple or higher on GPUs.
I know it's a pipe dream about boycotting the high price of tech, but unlike you I will never give up.
