Question RTX 5080 Running at 4x PCI 3.0 Lanes

Hello,

I just purchased a new RTX 5080 from MSI for my system. My mainboard and CPU are still a bit of older generation (Specs Below). The card feels like it's running great since I was upgrading from a 3070, however when I fired up GPU-Z I noticed that the bus says that it is currently running at 4x PCI-E Lanes. I'm trying to do some research on why this might be happening but from what I'm seeing I have things installed correctly and I'm just not sure what Bios setting might be causing this issue

Motherboard - TUF Gaming Z590-Plus
CPU- Intel Core I7-10700KF
GPU - MSI GeForce RTX 5080 Trio

GPU is installed in circled PCI 16x slot, said to be the one connected to the motherboard. My only M.2 Drive is installed in M.2 slot 3, which I can't seem to figure out weather it shares any bandwidth with this slot

I am aware with 10th gen processor I will be restricted to 3.0 PCIe, however I am trying to figure out why I can't get the card to access its full 16x lanes and it's only currently access 4x

I have checked Bios for the term I saw come out of "Bios Bifurification" which is currently set to Auto, and the auto setting says it gives access to the full 16x lanes.

What am I doing wrong? Is something in my machine broken? I'll be big bummed if it is 🙁

Please let me know if there's any other information I can provide I'd really love to get this figured out if possible.

So, the latest BIOS update for that board happened in 2023, WAY before these cards came out. I would not be surprised if that isn't at least potentially the problem. Look at the last update, 1801, and in the description one of the main notes for the update is "improve compatibility with NVIDIA RTX40 series cards". The 40 series cards released in 2022 so even a full year later some of them needed a BIOS update to clean things up. Not saying that's the case here, but it's possible that it's simply lack of adequate hardware level support for that architecture.

You might first try removing the graphics card, making sure there is NOTHING in the PCIe slot, no bits of plastic or other debris, and that the teeth on the card are all clean, and...
Even the 12600kf is vastly faster than the 10700kf, by quite a lot, and is only like 140 bucks. So, for like only 280 bucks you could jump to about 30-40% increased CPU performance, on average, and if you go with a DDR4 board you wouldn't even have to buy new memory. And, you'd get PCIe 5.0 support.

But given that anything supporting DDR4 is basically dead after that Gen, it's probably not worth doing unless you really need PCIe 5.0 support and can't afford an entire platform upgrade, meaning new CPU, motherboard and DDR5 memory kit.
 
Im not an expert, but from all the pics I saw, I think theres no issue here. I will explain why in a second.

To the OP, Have you tried playing a game, or doing some redering to see if the card performs as expected?

Now, far as I remember nvidia already said they are not going to show the Hotspot temp anymore, so the value you see there, is the max value (0 to 255ºC).

About the PCIe lanes, that card can use up to 16x lanes of PCIe V5.0, but OP is limited to v3.0, which, if I'm not mistaked, represent exactly 4x lanes of PCIe v5.0 (bandwith wise).

I could be wrong, but I would strongly recommend trying a game before doing anything else.

4x lanes v5.0 = ~16GB/s --->>> 16x lanes v3.0 = ~16GB/s

I think GPUz and hwinfo are trying to express that, you are going to have bandwith equivalent to only 4x lanes of v5.0.
