It is even worst than that because the only comparison we have is with Cyberpunk with Path Tracing showing 27FPS on the 5090 vs 21.6 FPS on the 4090, which is about 30%.

Since the 5090 have 50% more RT cores over the 4090, you need to take that into account and the raster performance will ultimately be less than 30%.

30% will make Blackwell the WORST generational uplift ever from Nvidia.

Moral of the story is don't automatically upgrade to the latest graphics card.
Shame mine isn't listed on the chart above, but according to https://technical.city/en/video/GeForce-RTX-3080-Ti-vs-GeForce-RTX-5090, the 5090 is on paper at least double the speed of the 3080 Ti.

Yes, the real performance difference is here: 25~30 ish percents.

I always found people lame being disappointed when a new generation is improved so much that their own hardware feels outdated. That's such a selfish point of view.
As a 4090 owner, not planning to buy any 5090, I was still deeply hoping that they could achieve a much better improvement, and push the overall GPU world to new standards, especially regarding efficiency. But that didn't happen.
If you compare the perf and the core amount ratio, there is almost no progress to see, it's just 25 percent more cores, 25 percent more perf...

And the price to performance ratio is not improving much, neither...

It's indeed not much of a deal for gamers. It seems like it is much more targeted at people for whom running AI stuff is the principal concern.

doesnt this just showcases that blackwell was designed 95% for datacenter and AI than actual gaming performance? they are trying to cover for it by throwing DLSS 4

As long as the pricing is in line, these could still be decent cards. I tend to ignore model tiers and strictly decide on price performance. On a 4070Ti currently and I'm eyeing anything with 16GB+ and at least a 50% performance uplift in raw raster. I'll be waiting until RDNA 4 cards are released before doing anything regardless.

5080 should be DoA with 16GB VRAM. But I'm sure it will sell plenty.

I r e a l l y want to try an Intel card, hoping some Big Battlemage goodness will come around too. If not, I'll look at RDNA 4. If it's meh, then I'll just wait. My 4070 Ti was indeed a stop gap solution due to some 7900XTX pricing/availability BS in Canada at the time but it's doing OK for now.

I am finding the 50 series to be very underwhelming. They appear to under perform and are over priced. Though minus the 5080/5090 there are some improvements lower down the stack but even these prices still seem about 50-100 USD to high. In the case of the 5090 they should have left the price the same as last gen and lowered the 5080 to 899 USD or even 750. Then and only then I might be more excited but as it stands now 50 series is a generation of 'meh', assuming the Nvidia performance gains are in line with the 15-30 percent they claimed depending on the SKU. Glad I have a 4090 as a 4K 144hz gamer at the end of the day. I would be hard pressed to recommend a 40 series ownere upgrade unless they are truly VRAM starved and even then its a tough sell for me to recommend.

That would be a serious cut down, but it is a big chip. Possibly see a 28GB card.

Won't be $900 off that would put in high end 5080 territory.

I doubt they will use this silicon for mobile parts, and no sign of any "Quadros" yet that might have more enabled cores. 5090 probably equates to the most common yield.

I hear ya. I'm quite happy with my 4090 and I game at 4K 60hz. My OLED is 120hz... but I honestly don't see a difference between the two... I think because I'm 50. LOL

At any rate... I am planning on getting a 5090 but it's not because I'm starved for performance. Newegg is offering $1350 in trade... and I have some offers here at work in the similar price range. I paid $1599 for mine... so getting close to that amount has me biting on a 5090 for $2k whether I need it or not. 🤣

True, but unless AMD has a "Ryzen" like generational leap this time out, they just don't have to do any better than that for the high end.

3090 here. I just haven't felt the need to upgrade over the past few years. Dearth of games that I really want to play that really saturate the hardware. (Not a fan of survival or Souls-like).

I'm in the same boat, I got 3080Ti and 1440p Ultrawide and frankly I can run anything out there that interests me anyway just fine at Ultra with Quality DLSS anyway.

I have these pangs of going for 5090, but then what am I going to use it for? Indiana Jones and Path Tracing CP77, which are practically the only possible use cases for me there at the moment?

And what's worse is that it is clear as a day that next gen in ~2 years with 3nm process will be an actual big jump too, so might as well drag out my 3080Ti there.
