Hey all of ya!

So ive got a GTX 970 coming in the door in the next couple of days.

And i would like to hear, would i be able to run it with my old GTX 670?

Not in SLI, but i would like to use my old cards for recording, and the new one for the stuff i do. I remember i read something about it being possible. But i have no idea :)

What you're thinking is turning a graphics card into a capture card. This idea is a good one, but not really possible. When you get 2 cards from different series, the best thing to do is use the better one for monitor output and dedicate the other to PhysX. Adding a capture card would do exactly what you want, but a 970 should be strong enough for recording most games. Performance losses will definitely occur on high end games with this set up.

A 970 doesn't run 4k at 60 fps anyway... and a gpu is an output, which is why it wouldn't work. A capture card has inputs and outputs, so it can read, record, and send the signal as it goes to the monitor.
