I just built a new desktop with a i7 4790k processor for the sole purpose of 3d rendering. I was rendering a scene and monitoring the cpu with realtemp. It stayed around 98-100C the entire time it rendered which was about 8 minutes. I'm afraid to have it run that close to the max heat for so long but not sure if I should be worried. Is this going to cause a problem? If so, is there a way to force the computer to not allow it to push the cpu that hard? Thanks!

Solution
It is not a question of the CPU is being pushed too hard. It is a question that the stock cooler that comes with 4790k is completely inadequate. A good 30 bucks cooler like Hyper 212 Evo will get your temps down to the 60s. If you have enough space in your case for it. Else, we can try and find something more suitable for your case.

Yeah, I'm sure I have the room for it but I'll check. Thanks very much for the advice!
