Hi all,

I just tried to install a corsair h100i GTX on my amd fx cpu.

Everything went well except one of the 4 stand off screws onto which I mount the cooling plate was stripped. I don't think I did it since the tightening screw never went down over it straight but....who knows.

so I'm going to send in a request for another standoff screw and....i guess re-attach the cooler to the cpu......my question is, in the mean time, if my temps are ok, is there any reason I shouldn't run it with only the three screws?

I use this computer 7 hours a day for my job doing motion graphics work and it would be tough to have to wait for the screw to show up and miss a day or two of work........obviously, though, that would be better than doing damage to the cpu!

ok, thanks for any thoughts and please let me know if you need any more info!

Right, thank you for the warning...I use "core temp" to monitor the levels, right now I'm running about 10c under my normal idle temp....haven't done anything stressful with it yet.....

So IF my temps stay safe, there is no reason running it without the third clamp for a few days would damage the cpu?

Also, I'm guessing I need to apply some sort of TIM when I get the standoff screw and re-attach the cooling plate?

I wouldn't risk it and use a stock or old cooler as long as it's good enough. If there's no other option, you may well just try but make sure to keep an eye on any leaks or temperature spikes. High temperatures could lead to a lower life span for you CPU.

I will do so, Rohat. I used to hit temps of 60c when doing editing on After effects (And mid to high 70's when exporting! I feel like something must have been wrong), I just opened up AE to give it a test run and was in the mid 20's so, I'm feeling ok about it until Corsair gets back to me with info on how to get a spare part. I will certainly keep an eye on the temps, though.....I don't want them randomly spiking or anything terrible like that.
