my skyrim has been very choppy lately with just a hand full of mods.. and I believe it skyrim not taking full advantage of the 8 core CPU I was wondering if they was a way to make it use all cores/threads well, I think its the CPU because it runs fine I believe I have HD texture mods and the landscape ones are light to try and cut down on lag...
there is this one thing what I have seen what can make skyrim use more cores but I have no idea how to use it and what to put 😛
its this what I want to get working for my CPU and kit : http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/546499-performance-tweaks-for-smooth-gameplay/page-12
CPU: FX 8320
GPU: GTX 660
MOBO:GA-990XA-UD3
RAM:8 GB
Hard drive: 1TB 7200rpm
CPU cooler: CM EVO 212 with crap load of new fans installed!!!
PSU: 550w PRO core XFX
I am using one or two mods to help with lag but it will drop to 10 fps for about 2 seconds and the brig at riverwood makes it choppy and the max frames on that is 40!!!

Solution
Your CPU is fine, its the vid card that isnt up to the task. The 660 is popular these days cause its cheap. But its still a mid level video card.
The bridge at Riverwood is a known hotspot for lag, even good cards slow down there. I dont know what it's rendering there that makes it so bad.

The 660 is probably the min you can run. You might want to SLI it with a second one. Most of the multi-gpu issues on Skyrim have been worked out by now, and stuttering or dropped frames is much less of an issue than it was a year ago.

These guys got over 90FPS on Skyrim with everything maxed and on.
