Running vista recovery onto a HDD in a encloser

My desktop hard drive would constantly get a error in windows upon start up where it would just stay at the loading bar screen. I need to run the vista recovery disk but the rest of my pc is in pieces and i am still awaiting my new parts. Is it possible to run the recovery disk from my laptop while my desktop is in a enclosure hooked up to my laptops usb slot to hopefully solve my problem? Sorry if this is the wrong section for this question.
