Hello all,

I'm new here so please bear with me.

I have been experiencing BSODs frequently after my upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. I have the latest drivers. Based on the dump files, the driver/s responsible sometimes varies but always involves ntoskrnl.exe. So I checked for solutions and found out that I had to check on my memory modules.

I ran Windows Memory Diagnostic tool with both memory modules installed and errors were detected. I decided to remove one of the two and ran the test again with just one stick and no errors were detected. I ran the test with the other stick only and no errors were detected also. But when I ran the test with both sticks installed, errors were detected again.

Can somebody please enlighten me as to why this is happening?

Thank you so much!

Details of the test:
Type - Extended, Cache - On, No. of pass - 5

My specs:
Intel i5-4690K
Asus Z97 Pro (WiFi-AC)
8GB (Dual) DDR3 1866MHz G.Skill Ripjaws X (F3 14900CL8D 8GBXM)
Asus GTX 750 Ti Strix OC Ed.

Haven't been here a while so it took me a while to reply.

I haven't tried running in differently colored slots. Will do that soon. I'm currently using slots 1 and 3.

If it's a motherboard problem, how do I verify?

I ran using differently colored slots and still errors were found.

But I think I got it. I read the motherboard manual and found out that recommended slots for the DIMMs should be slots 2 and 4. Tried those slots now and ran an Extended Test (an exhaustive test I suppose since it took almost 24 hours) using the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool and found no errors with both sticks installed.

I never thought reviewing previous configuration (slots 1 and 3, computer was assembled at store I bought it from so I thought it was fine) since no problems were encountered when I was still running Windows 8.1.

Will be monitoring in case BSODs rise up again.

Details of test:
Type - Extended, Cache - Default, No. of pass - 1 only (since it took almost 24 hours, phew!)

Update: I am still experiencing BSODs. I reformatted my PC and clean installed Win 10 (previous OS was upgrade from 8.1). I haven't experienced BSODs but other issues arose. Like PC gets stuck on repair loop during bootup (had to reformat/reset to fix issue, other options simply doesn't work out) and PC restarts a few seconds after purposely shutting down (had to uncheck Turn on fast startup in Power Options so that PC would just stay shut down). I didn't encounter any BSODs. But when I reformatted my PC and installed Win 8.1 and upgraded to Win 10, first BSOD showed on first bootup. Same problems again. I no longer think my RAM sticks are the reason for all these issues (although ntostkrnl.exe is still the failing driver according to dumps).
