RX 480 8GB strange memory readings

While gaming I can see video memory usage from afterburner on secondary monitor and it goes from ~4012GB to 0GB in an instant, (GPU-z also reads the same data with respect to VRAM usage)but gradually increases again. However the gaming experience is unaffected. This happens with just about any game if memory usage goes beyond 4GB. AMD settings says the rx 480 is 8gb and so does control panel. Perhaps I'm missing something with respect to how these cards work. let me know please.

Try using msi afterburner while playing and check the vram usage. I would try that first. Hope I helped.
