I mean I currently have a tiny monitor that only mustards full hd 1080p , but I'm planning to upgrade to 4k in the not so near future . so my question is I know 1080 ti is more expensive but maybe its a question of brands ? is rx 580 good enough if you want to 4k in the near future ? I play mostly call of duty (all of them since 2003) , doom and I also pre - purchased the new Wolfenstein .

also do you know if the 11 gb of vram on the new 1080 and 1080 ti's are essential to be future proof , or is rx's 8 gb enough ?

I have money for a 1080 , or a ti , but I thought maybe I save for a ryzen motherboard , cpu or maybe a kaby lake , 7th generation , or the upcoming i9 ?! I have no clue

Solution

1) Not even. It'll be like 15 FPS when 4K settings are maxed out.
2) Why not? It's not like there's some hardware limitation AMD...

yes , I don't own a 4K monitor , but i'm planning to buy a 4k sometime in the future .. so my question was is rx 580 good for a 4k experience in call of duty , doom , and the new Wolfenstein , or does it have to be a 1080 ?!

i'm also in favor of boycotting intel , but I have no clue how the ryzen fairs against intel . I mean 1700x 1800x , naples , 16 cores , intel's i9 is too much for me to understand

they give you benchmarks and all sorts of independent analytics , but it all turns out to be pure BS , my 390x had issues in call of duty modern warfare remastered , specially in big maps , and it was supposed to perform well ..

it all depends on WHEN you're getting that 4k monitor.
if it's in September, yeah, go with the 1080Ti
if it's "somewhen 2018" then the Rx580 will easily do and instead of spending 800$ for a 4k capable card, you'll spend far less when upgrading.

also "boycott Intel" is interesting when it's between an AMD and a NVIDIA card...

If 4K next year then why not just wait for the top end AMD RX Vega...

OP did mention i9, KB lake, and 7th generation...

If you plan on upgrading to a 4k monitor within the next year you should go with a 1080ti.
The 580 can handle 4k but you need to OC and fine tune your graphics settings in each game to even get close to 30 or 60 fps. Keep in mind the 580 is a mid range GPU and can handle everything in 1080p and 1440p without any problems. 4k is atm high end technology and can get super expensive if you want quality.
Best example for this is the console market. the "4k" gaming experience is nothing more than a big lie. most of it is upscaled and in super bad textures and low quality settings.
Considering you playing tons of FPS you should go with the 1080Ti, cause more FPS make your gaming experience way better (low input lag, no microstuttering, no fps drops, better response time when buffering deactivated etc.).

Also about the CPUs:
Intel has lost tons of market share since the launch of Ryzen. If youre going to change your CPU get yourself a 1700 or 1600X.
An i5 7600k has more single thread performance (about 5%) but the fact you have 2 more cores and SMT (Hyper threading kinda) for the same price is just ridiculous.

unless you're getting the 4k on Jan 5th, I think it could be cheaper going with next gens GTX (xx)60 card.
a 1160 or RX680 or whatever those will be called should be strong enough to deliver the frames at 4k.
going for a 580 now and a 680 then could in fact be cheaper than going for a 1080Ti right away.
but of course it depends on when you're upgrading the screen. the sooner, the 1080Ti-isher.

intel vs AMD seems just like NVidia vs AMD here in the third world .. I mean from our point of view intel is somewhere cooperating with NVidia along the lines , and somehow against AMD . it's like boeing and airbus in a sense

I don't want to boycott intel just because they're more international , or they seem to be .. but because they confuse the market . they overwhelm you with loads of different expensive products and motherboard chipsets none of which you can buy , just to show off . AMD and iPhone are more practical and straight forward in that sense , I still remember when the CEO of AMD said that the Ryzen will be enough for the next 5 years

isn't 4k , 4xxx .. P ? I mean 4 thousand something P ? or is it close to 4 thousand ? my 390x can already mustard that resolution close to 4 thousand , 3 thousand 8 hundred something ... in call of duty and doom , with the help of AMD super resolution on my 42 inch tv panel .. but that's another story since I messed up my card trying to install a watercooler on it .

🙁
🙁

so you're essentially saying it's only NVidia's line of 1080 crap that can handle 4K games well ? and that RX 580 will stutter in 4K ?

most people go with an intel cpu motherboard setup and an AMD graphics card , I've never heard of anyone willing to combine a ryzen setup with an 1080

and what's going to be new with amd's vega ? I thought rx 580 was already vega ! wasn't it ?

my guess would be they're working on reducing power consumption and the lithography nanometer thing with the RX 4xx and 5xx , and then they gonna launch a big massive thing similar to 1080 with vega .. is that right ?

1) Not even. It'll be like 15 FPS when 4K settings are maxed out.
2) Why not? It's not like there's some hardware limitation AMD imposed on NVIDIA.
3) RX 580 is Ellesmere, or in other words, Polaris. You can actually turn your RX 480 into a RX 580. Vega's fully different.
