Hi everyone,

Haven't posted on here in a long time.

I recently bought an RX 6800 XT on eBay that was listed as not working.

The seller stated that it would give error 43 and not show up properly in GPU-Z and I was thinking that there's a decent chance it just needs a bios flash or something along those lines.

However, once I received it, I cant get any display output whatsoever which makes me assuming they had an iGPU they could test with (I have an AMD cpu).

The PC will otherwise boot fine (without display) and I can even control elements of Windows with keyboard shortcuts.

The card itself will spin the fans, display RGB and generally seems fine physically.

What concerns me is that this behaviour is the same on either bios switch setting suggesting it's not a vbios issue.

I knew it was a gamble getting it and I can always try and sell it again at least. I'm just curious if there's anything obvious I've missed.

Things I've tried so far:
- Every port on the card
- Different ports on the monitor
- DIfferent cables
- Updating drivers and motherboard bios
- Using a different PCIe slot
- Confirmed other graphics cards work as normal
- The vBIOS switch in both silent and oc positions

What made you think and believe that a NON-working GPU sold on Ebay is suddenly going to work properly on your system ? Why did you buy a defective GPU in the first place when the seller stated that it would give Error Code 43 ? I'm just wondering.

A BIOS flash will not always revive a dead GPU.

Make and model number of your PSU ? List full PC specs as well. You shouldn't have bought this card though. If the seller himself states that the GPU is dead, then why buy it and take the risk ?

Oh BTW,

"Error code 43" is a generic message that typically indicates a problem with the hardware or software in Windows operating system. This error is often reported in Windows Device Manager. If you encounter this error with your graphics card, here are some troubleshooting ideas that may help fix it.

1) Update your graphics card driver.

2) Make sure your system is updated with the latest SBIOS and Windows updates

3) Check to make sure your system power supply meets the minimum recommended power requirement for your card

4) If your card needs additional power, make sure the PCIe supplemental power connector is plugged into the card

5) Replace the graphics card as it may be defective

Code 43 can mostly happens either if drivers fail or the hardware fails. Other option is that your GPU or motherboard slot failed. If your motherboard has more then one PCIe x16 slot, you can move GPU to another slot to rule out motherboard failure.

Or you should test GPU in another machine to confirm that problem lies with the card.

I knew there's no guarantee but error 43 can just as easily be driver/bios related as it could be a true hardware fault. The seller hadn't tried any fixes so best case I get a top tier GPU for 75% off and just need new drivers or a bios flash and worst case I can just sell it for what I bought it for since the listing had a lot of attention. I preemptively relisted it and have an offer already

PSU is a Corsair rm550x which I know would be low for gaming but enough to boot and test it minus the possibility of a transient spike.

CPU is Ryzen 5 3600. Motherboard is Asrock b450 steel legend and then a couple SSDs and Hard drives.

I've ruled out motherboard failure but going to try the card in another system tomorrow.

I've got no regrets buying it and found it an interesting experience troubleshooting high end hardware. I'm assuming there's nothing else worth trying besides the oven method which probably would be more risk than it's worth to the resale value.

Try the card in a system with an igpu, that's if igpu doesn't disable itself with a graphics card present. Might be stuck if it does so hopefully you can set in bios to use both before installing the card.

If you can get that far and if Amd Adrenaline has similar to Nvidia where you can select preferred graphics processor unit for certain applications, can actually route dgpu through motherboard video, then try compare performance. Might get lucky and if it works like that you may be able to find an electronics repairer to have a look at it.
