Ryzen 1700 or 1700x with $10 price difference?

I recently purchased a 1600 from Micro Center and just noticed that they have the 1700 for $259 and the 1700x at $269.

I figured, what the hell, I'm going to upgrade to one or the other tomorrow, since I'm still under the return policy.

I am currently overclocking the 1600 and will also overclock the Ryzen 7.

I also already own a Hyper 212 Evo, with am4 bracket, so I would most likely not use the wraith spire cooler, as the 212 is better by a little margin.

From everything I am reading, no guarantee for a better overclock on the x chips but we're talking less than 4% price difference.

Pay the extra $10 for a possible chance at a better OC or save the $10 and maybe get an extra case fan with it?

Decisions....

1700X for sure. Nobody can guarantee how high you can OC 1700 to. But 1700X gives you a higher start point, and the cooler comes with 1700 means 0 value to you :)
@chemmajorp53, there's nothing wrong with following the rules set forth by a company. Micro Center provides a no questions asked return policy, as long as the product is in like new condition with original packaging. Criticizing my decision has nothing to do with my question. Thanks for your contribution.

Thanks @vapour, I was fairly confident it is the correct choice. All these review videos saying the 1700x is not a wise choice made me doubt. But I think these reviews I am reading are taking into consideration that the price difference was a lot larger before..

And the winner is....the 1700X. Plugged it in, set it to 3.8Ghz at 1.35volts, just to get something going until I have more time to fine tune it. Hyper 212 keeping it at 36C, with a short 20 min Prime95 run keeping it at 66-67C. I know I can do better, just need a whole day to tinker with it now:)
